New Zaino Smearing

I am putting Zaino on a vehicle and am having problems with it smearing. The first coat seemed to go okish, but all the coats since then seem to smear when trying to remove them, even if I let them dry for hours and hours. Here is what we did...(car has been parked in the garage all week, not driven)

Saturday...

Wait for rain to stop...

Dawn Wash

California Clay Bar (blue) (This thing scratched the paint up worse than expected)

IP

Sunday...

FPII

Z6...

need to wash...but it is pouring rain out...stop for the day.

Monday night...

Z7 Wash

Z6

Z5 + ZFX

Wait for three hours (checking every 30 minutes) - remove

Tuesday night...

Z6

Z5 + ZFX

Wait for two hours, try to remove...wait overnight...

Wednesday morning...

Remove Z5 + ZFX

Wednesday night...

Z6

Z5 + ZFX

Wait two hours...remove

Z5 + ZFX

Wait two hours...remove

Thursday night...

Z6

Z2 Pro + ZFX

Z2 Pro + ZFX

I have used Zaino before, but my old Zaino is a lot different than this new Zaino. You can actually reuse the ZFX bottles now (yeah!). I haven't had smearing problems like this...

Before anyone asks...

It is too thick? I don't know but I don't think so. I have used roughly 1/3 ounce per coat including inside the door frames, the wheels, etc.

My two guesses are either I didn't get all the oils from the FPII off (I thought between the Z6 and the Z7 and then the Z6 again that would be enough to get anything left from the FPII) or the weather. Tonight it is 57 degrees and 95% humidity. I have two 500W Halogen's trying to help me out by heating things up...but it is still smearing even after waiting overnight. Is the 95% humidity just to much for this stuff to dry?

Any thoughts? Does the new Zaino not come off the same way as the old Zaino?

Thanks.

I'm guessing it's the humidity. Most sealants are problematic with high humidity or low temperatures. You've got both going for you. :P It doesn't sound like you're using too much product - I know I've used as much as 1oz/coat and not had problems removing it, even non-ZFX enabled. Of course, it was dry and warm...

I'd wait on additional coats until it's relatively dry out there.

It does not sound like you are applying too much but if at all possible try to go a little thinning. Apply sooo thin that it appears that nothing is on the surface.

I actually think the new Z2-PRO dries faster than the old version. So much so that it rarely takes more than an half hour to do so. That is without ZFX.

Another suggestion maybe to allow vehicle to sit outside during the drying phase in direct sunlight. Though humidity will be approximately the same the volume and air currents outside will have more "room" (absorbance capacity) to absorb the moisture from the polish.

Sounds like the same problem I had. Too many coats in a short period of time. It gets to the point where all you are doing is smearing it around and the coats haven't fully cured before you put on another one.

In three day period I put one coat of Z1/Z5. Next day, spray down with Z6, then another coat of Z5 and the third day it was another spray-down with Z6 with a coat of Z2-Pro topped with Z8. The result was major smearing. Like yourself, the first coat of Z5 was just fine and I was putting thin coats on but then I kept putting more and more product on. It was just too much, too fast.

I talked to Sal Zaino and he confirmed it was just a matter of too much Zaino within a short period of time, especially with Z8 added in the mix. That Z8 is potent stuff. It's almost like putting another coat of Zaino polish on.

Basically I just hosed it down and wiped off and the problem was solved. No more smears. I suggest you do the same. Hose off the car with plain water and wipe down with a wet towel, then dry. It should help. Don't apply any more polish or Z6/Z8. Wiping down with an MF towel helps too.
