Happy New Year Everyone!



Had a couple details to do since I was home. First, I did my mom's '01 Chrysler PT Cruiser.

Second Detail



My girfriend's '95 Pathfinder took me two days. It was a wreck from tree sap, harsh conditions and pretty much just not cared for ever (detail wise). However, it runs great and drives great because it has received EVERYTHING it's needed when there was a problem, straight from Nissan. It has been in about 4 accidents. The paint was the softest I've ever done, but didn't burn once :D. However, it did not jump out at me when done. Shiny and clean...yes, but not what I had hoped for. Anyways, she's happy and its clean and protected.

I washed one of those PT Cruisers at work a while ago, they seem pretty nice!



-The front airduct/fog lamp area of the PT's bumper- you said the majic of a rotary, but could you really fit the rotary in there? I would have though that would have required a hand-polishing.



-when claying, did you use carwash + water for a lube, or QD?



-Did you use the Bill North method w/ SG?



-Did you use a dressing on black plastic/rubber? What kind?



-What temperature was it? I hate cold weather!



Great job on the cars! Sorry about all the questions, but they were just a few things I wanted to know. :p How many cars have you used your rotary on so far? I'm getting one soon and I'll be getting a panel to practice on, and I have plenty of other vehicles to practice on, but I'm just wondering where you're at. You seem pretty confident and it looks really good.

When I saw the PT, I thought the rims weren't chrome but in the after pics I realize they're actually chrome! What a difference!!!

- The rotary covered most of the small foglight/airduct area. I had to hand polish a little bit, but the rotary did a nice job.



- When claying, I used 1-2 oz. of car soap mixed with 32 oz of water in a spray bottle. I figured why waste QD on claying. If the water/soap solution isn't on the exact same scale as the QD for lubricity and it creates a little more marring...who cares? You're going to polish out all the defects anyways.



- For the SG, I used the regular method (let dry for 3o mins, then remove). However, I used the BillNorth method on my Integra. I like the Bill North way better. Its much easier and quicker :D



- All plastics were treated with West Marine Vinyl Protectant (comparable to 303 Aerospace, but cheaper)



- Temperature. While washing and claying... 37*. I had to run inside every panel to run the clay under hot water just to get it to fold. It was terrible. Warmed up to about 45* for polishing and Klasse'ing.
 
Thanks Eric, I should re-phrase the uptop quote. My girlfriend HAS taken care of the PF very well, but the paint has been neglected. Anything mechanically or cosmetic (damaged panels), it has received straight from Nissan. It runs great and drives great. I'm gonna do another coat of SG this weekend and take some pics in the sun. Hopefully that will help out it's look.

I'm planning on getting a rotary soon, is the Makita (I think that's what it's called) a good choice?:nixweiss

Makita is a great choice. I like it a lot. Has great balance and it very stable. Takes a little getting used to so I suggest you try on an older car if you can. If not, then just take your time and watch the videos from Meguiar's (somewhere on this site) on good rotary techniques.
