New White Audi Help Please

Hi Detail Gurus - I'm new to detailing and have just bought a PC. Next step is my pad and product set. Unfortunately I have to drive through winter before I start but I want to be prepared for the first 40^ day. I have 2 questions:

1.) For my first routine I'm thinking: wash, 4* clay bar, wash, either SSR1 or Menszerna FPII or UPC (suggestions?), AIO, UPP, UGE. Thoughts?

2.) I've considered adding a wax over the UPP, but it seems like that would then require me to re-detail in a month when the wax wears off. With the UPP only couldn't I just relayer if I QD and wash? If I did a wax layer, then what should I use for QD?

Thanks!

Welcome to DC. Your plan looks good. I'm a big fan of SSR1 but I haven't used FPII yet. Also I'm not sure you're going to need the cleaners (UPC, AIO) before you go to UPP. I personally don't find a difference in UPP longevity after SSR1 or UPC or AIO. It lasts longer than I do with either of the three. (About 2 months is the longest I made it before putting Wolfgang on my daily driver which is outside 24/7. I just wanted to see what it Wolfgang looks like on the truck.)

As far as toppers. I'd wait to see how the UPP looks before making that decision. UPP looks great on every color I've seen it on.

You didn't ask about pads but I have an opinion on that too! :D I like Lake country's contoured pads myself - the 6.5 inchers not the 7.5 inch advanced ones. They hold up well and I have had no product slinging problems with them.

Good Luck with the 40+ weather request! We're supposed to be hitting 70+ today in the Atlanta area. :mohawk

If you've got swirls then use a swirl remover. If not go with either UPC or AIO. After you apply the UPP you might not need a topper (wax) depends if you like the look or not. To maintain, either wash/QD for a while or put another layer of UPP. If you do put a wax on, I believe UGE is ok to put on top of wax.

Ok First where do you live. this way we can figure out Just how bad winter is going to be on you.second did the dealer touch it.. if they did I would bet you have swirllies. So I would go with the PB line Or sonus line (you could get the pad set which i hear is really nice) I hear great things about UPP but I'm an AIO user..

Two things to remember..
Buy in Kits
Get extra MF

I have two white cars and I get the best look (my opinion) by using:
SSR 1 if there are minor swirls, then by UPC, 2-3 coats of UPP.
Using AIO prior to UPP seems to mute the brightness achieved by SSR 1.
Also Using UPC will ensure the best bond for UPP.
I use the SSR 1 with a polishing pad or finishing pad and the PC set at max speed.
For even more gloss without sacrificing brightness and reflectivity, go over the car with Adams Detail Spray after the UPP has cured completely.

I live in Minneapolis, so winter will be pretty bad. Anything I can do in the mean time? I don't have a heated garage, but it doesn't usually get below freezing. Maybe I could go to a self wash and after a gentle spray, dry and use QD?

Yes, the dealer did touch it. I checked over the hood and trunck and didn't see swirls, but then I didn't look under good light.

Thanks for the help!

Nice S4!!! I would love to have one some day. BTW I see that you live in the Cities. I don't live all that far from you.....I'm in Rochester. Your plan of attack sound's really good!
