New wheels or not?

The Rainmaker
Considering that the Montana is just a minivan and is used accordingly, I can't quite decide if it is worth spending the money for some aftermarket wheels.

Goes every day, snow, salt, rain, gravel roads, whatever.
Keep in mind that it isn't a show vehicle, but a utility vehicle.
Hey, it's a minivan.:)

Buy the wheels or no?

Charles

I would. Maybe to the same type of wheels Mazda MPV or Nissan Quest use.

I did on the other hand see a Honda Odysey the other night at Best Buy and the person put 24 inch Spokes on it.

To each his own.

I feel wheels compliment a vehichle HUGE so I would say yes as long as you have the cash. I would only jump up a size or two keeping the profile at 60 minimum, but hey just buy wheels no tires still would look good. discounttiredirect, victoriatires, tirerack but their wheels arent cheep but everything else is very good prices. goodluck ps, I would turn tires black side out also just my opinion.

If you want to save the cash, send me half and keep the ones you have.
The exchange rate is too confusing for me to figure and I'm not sure I want you to do the computation for me.:)

Spending the money is more of an "is it worth it" thing than anything.
Like the Odyssey with the 22" spokes Joyride mentioned. It was still an Odyssey minivan.
The tire/wheel shop where I go has sold at least one set of tires and wheels for $12,000. And they weren't even spinners. He has sold lots of $5,000 to $6,000 packages, though. I was thinking more along the line of $600. :whistling

Are you talking wheels and tires? What size are you thinking?

I have not had a car in 20 years that has not had after market rims on it....I like the personal touch that it gives.....If I where you I would go for it....you can make the van look more like what you want...that's my take

15" with probably 60 series tires. I'll have to see what fits in the space available. I defintely want to stay awfully close to the stock wheel & tire overall size. 215-70 x 15 is what came from the factory. I haven't really checked into anything just yet. The stock tires only have 26,000 on them, so there's no real hurry. I had originally planned on doing it this spring, but I'm starting to think it would be a waste of money. (Something I'm quite good at.:))

Charles

Don't worry about the rims spend the money on some dressing for those wheel wells... J/K
You don' have to go extravegant or even change the size of the wheel if you don't want. You can find some nice looking rims out there for your van in your price range.

Good luck

Well 15" wheels are really hard to find but you could go up to 16" wheels and tires for $340.00 for flaken ziex tires they are great tires in snow and you will get 50,000 miles out of them no problem. As for wheels you can get 16" wheels for $400.00 to your door. no tax and no shipping on either item. Check out discounttiredirect.com.

I guess they do have 15" rims there starting at 84,00 a rim not bad.

I agree with Beemerboy. If the tires complete the look on the van go ahead and purchase the wheels. Yet, if there is a question in your mind....there is always another wheel coming up in the future. I went thru the same thing just amonth or so ago. I am still looking....

Aftermarket Wheels will almost always help a vehicle look better. I say if your going to do it stick with the same size maybe .5 wider but do not go to larger wheels, after all it is a minivan essentially.

Charles, you didn't tell me I turned your Bentley into a Pontiac minivan! :D

I will buck the trend and say that it isn't really worth it. All in all, it's a minivan and it's a daily driver. If you can get a damn good deal on some aftermarket wheels you like, go for it, but honestly there's only so much you can do to a minivan to make it look better.

Actually, I was referring to my wife's Pontiac GTP.
If you had turned my Bentley into a minivan, I would have been on my way to Lawg Oiland, New Yawk for some serious discussion with you. As it turns out, she likes the GTP just fine and the Bentley is forgotten.:)

If your serious about getting some wheels and don't want nothing to big or fancy i'd go with 17's. The price difference wouldn't be that big plus whats the point of getting a 15 inch custom wheel, IMO you'd just be wasting money??? You could get a 17'' with a 50 or 45 series tire and get just about the same ride quality if not the same and a better all around look as you would with a 15'' wheel and 60 series rubber. Or you could just replace your current wheels and keep the tires.

I dunno.... depends on the wheels, I guess. I switched out the wheels on my truck, but I went the "boring" route and swapped to a different, nicer looking OEM wheel. That's just me, though.

It is only a minivan but you still have to look at it. If you are planning om keeping it I would put some 16" rims and tires as I suggested and it will inhance the look ,hey a minivan can still look good. I wouldnt go to any rim size that would require you to go below a 60 series tire because it is a minivan and who needs a low profile tire on a minivan but thats just me.
