Just got the wife's new Malibu home and I had to vary my plans just a bit regarding getting it cleaned up and protected. I am going to do the following as these are the products that I could get ahold of immediately so I can use my couple of days off and get this done......

1. megs deep crystal wash

2. clay as needed

3. megs #82 (205 not available)

4. megs #21

5. day later. maybe a 2nd coat of #21

6. megs clear coat car wax

I will be using a 7424 and have 6.5" lcs white, green, and black pads.

Any caveats or warnings or advice before i do this....? :think2

The caveat that comes first to mind is that 6.5" pads are, IME, too big for use with the PC. That #82 isn't gonna do much of any correction anyhow, but especially not with a big pad like that. It oughta do some concealing though, so things will probably look better.

[Insert rant about vendors selling PCs with 6.5" pads. IMO that's simply *wrong*.]

I wouldn't top the #21 with the wax (wonder just which one you got  ), but that's just me.

And I'd *MUCH* rather wash with something that has better lubricity and encapsulation. Even Meguiar's Gold Class would be better than the Deep Crystal, not that I'm a fan of either one.

actually, they are 5.5" pads....I fat fingered the size in the post.

I managed to keep the dealer from doing his wash routine, so I hope it won't need a lot of correction....as much as I looked at it anyway.

the wax I bought is Megs Gold Class™ Carnuba Premium Paste Wax.

dipstick_54- OK, good, those 5.5" pads oughta be better.

I'd think twice about the Gold Class wax. There are even people here who claim it'll mess with the #21. I don't have any real opinon on it as I've never used GC, but I'd still lean towards not topping the #21.

Ok, I may hold off on the wax then.....can I freshen it with some spray detailer after a couple of days?

top the sealant with a sealant! I heard a discussion about topping a sealant with a paste carnuba and the chemical make up of the carnuba diminished the durabilty of the sealant (which is why you use it).

I dont know the truth and reality of it as I am no chemist, but it seemed to make sense...

I top a sealant with a sealant (same one), unless full term durability is not a concern. I am going to see a couple of cars every month for a waxing, so one month Ill use a sealant, then the next two months it get a carnuba, then Ill strip it all and start over with the sealant again!

ok, then the 2nd coat of #21 should suffice? I am assuming it would be best to wait overnight for that 2nd coat...?

I wouldn't touch the paint between washes myself, but you could add a second application (coat?) of #21 after the next wash.

FWIW, I use spray detailers after *every* wash. I get most of the water off, spritz on the QD, and then finish drying. I like FK425 the best for use on sealants.
