picked up a Craftsman 5hp wall mountable shop vac yesterday and a few new products after work today to try this weekend!

the 18 ft of hose i thought would be plenty long to go out into my driveway. but i am coming up like 10 feet short! i wonder if i can get an extension from sears!

seems to be pretty good.. i only tested it out on the passenger side of my car that is pretty clean. the real test will come on saturday when i am detailing a Suburban that is used to haul around 5 children under 5!

i was wondering, the label on the vac says 5 "peak" HP, now how do i know when i am getting "peak" performance. and if i am not, what am i getting?

i was able to pick this up today too:

i had a similar kit for my shark vac, but i figuered i would get the one that actually goes with mine.

The 5 HP number is a marketing BS number. Here's why:

5 HP x 746 watts/HP = 3730 watts

3730 watts / 120V = ~31 amps

So, if you use the peak HP number and convert that to the number of amps needed to run the vac, you get 31 AMPS!

Holy crap!

My guess is that you have the shop vac plugged into a 15 amp circuit and that you aren't tripping the ckt breaker, right?

So 5HP is essentially a made up number.

Doesn't mean its bad vac, though...

Look on the vac for a sticker that gives the true power consumption of the device.

I'm looking at the same vac, so I'd be interested in seeing a detailed review after you use it on the Suburban.
