New to the PC

I just ordered the porter cable kit with meguirers pads and compounds. I am planning on working on my aunts maroon 99 camry wagon and I was wondering what is a good starting compound to use, I bought a video to watch, but I was wanting to get some pointers so I don't mess up her paint. I was planning on taping off everything that wasn't getting buffed out, but I don't want to hurt the car. I was going to start with The #83 dual action cleaner polish, then go with a #66 quick detailer and then finish witha #21 sealant.

Sounds like you have a good plan of action. Meguiar's makes a lot of good products but so does Poorboy's, Menzerna and a whole host of others.

Just use what you have and get used to them. After you have mastered one product line it would only be natural to branch out into other products if you are like the rest of us.

That is what I figured, I am sure there are better lines of product and I am sure that certain companies do some things better than others, but I went with a Maguires start up kit, that way I am not constantly switching products. Any pointers on pads and how they chould be used with these compounds. And how many micro fiber removal pads should I use during the process.

The thing I would stress is to use the least aggresive product and pad to do the job. Especially if you are new to the PC and the products. You can always step up.

As far as the MF removal pads are concerned I would save my money to use to purchase MF towels. Wax removal is easier and faster by hand. The MF pads covers tend to cake up rather quickly. It is my opinion that they are a pain.

I am going to start on my girls new car, she just bought a black 98 civic that looked like it hasn't been washed in years. If I can figure out how to add pics, I will add some photos.
