Just a quick question. Fist I'd like to say you guys are great here. I have learned soo much. Now on to the question. I am going to be touching up some rock chips on my hood and wet sanding them flat. Will AIO polish out the wet sanding or do I need something more abrasive?

Depends on how high of a grit you go up to wetsanding . AIO wont remove any wetsanding scratches though not matter how high as it's a cleaner/polish not a compound .

Order some 3000 grit from meguiars, mirka or some micromesh. with 3000 grit sanding marks, u can get away with using a medium cut polish/ compound such as Hi Temps medium cut leveler or meguiars 83. I hope you're using a rotary

Well ummmm No I won't be using a rotay... The sanding will be tiny spots though. I am going to use sand paper on a pencil tip I figure one or two spots a day and a lot of elbow grease and Ishould be able to get it. If I can't then I guess its time to spend some money on a rotary. The spots are all very tiny though.

Well I am going to be using 2000. Any suggestions on a product to start with then?

Welcome to Autopia!

Be careful with the wetsanding, inspect after *every* stroke. I'd sure go with 2.5-3K instead of the 2K, the little difference can make *all* the difference. But anyhow...

I've used 3M PI-III RC (05933) followed by PI-III MG (05937) by hand to remove 2.5-3K sanding scratches. Those products have been dicontinued but there are alternatives available (like the PI-3000 line).

Soak the paper in car wash shampoo before you use it (might wreak havoc on your pencil-tip plans though). I'd even rub the 2K together to try to wear it down so it's less abrasive. If it's even just a *little* too aggressive your by-hand efforts won't remove the scratches.

So the trick will be to just set aside a LOT of time then. I will look into gettting 3k. Will they carry that at auto parts stores like the 2k I got? I don't remember seeing it.

I dunno...but I'd order it from Meguiar's and just wait to do the job until it arrives. I found a noticeable, functional difference between their paper and the 3M stuff I used to use. And again, all those little differences really matter when you're only gonna be working by hand. And get some of those polishes/compounds. The AIO is basically nonabrasive for practical purposes and you need something with a fair amount of cut.

Well I just wanted to say THX a lot!!!! I went out and got a 10' RO to help with the wet sanding mark removal. The car came out better than I could have expected. Here is what I did any suggestions for later let me know.

Clay

Used Megs scratch x on wet sand marks

Megs gold class polish

AIO

SG 1 coat so far and will probably do a couple more

Carnuba??? (trying to find a good kind to add some depth to the SG)

3000 grit is tougher to find than 2000 grit. Check locally, but you may have to order it online. I use 2000 grit now, but if it were my first time I'd go with 3000, and sometimes still use 3000 myself, it's just much harder to mess something up using 2.5k+ than 1500-2000 grit.
