New Rigid Vac

I got to see one of them first hand from a friend of mine on another forum when i went thru Iowa the other week. It is a handy, storeable, and quite powerful. According to my friend. It sat in the back of his minivan as neat as you please.

At the time I was not interested in purchasing that unit. But my metro vacnblo blew up on me when I returned from the trip. Am interested in this unit now.

Is it the same motor?

The only benefit I see is that there is a place to store your attachments. Maybe it's a bit more of a space saver. But I'd be more curious about it's power capabilities compared to the other little Ridgid.

I just got an email that listed a few new vacuum's from Rigid and thought I would share the link to what seems to be the replacement for the small unit that we love so much around here.

The one everyone loves died on me today.

I turned it off, went to turn it on 5 minutes later and nothing...Tried 5 different (working) outlets. I attempted to take it apart but the screws are a mess. I will have to send it in for their "Lifetime Warranty".

Until then, I bought the piece above. Tomorrow will be my first day with the piece so I will try to report my findings.

Already, it seems a bit bulkier and heavier, but I really do like how everything fits internally...It makes everything cubical in my trunk and cuts down on clutter.

More tomorrow...

I would be wary of the hp rating on the vac. Using a standard 120v power source (ie wall socket) the most hp an electric motor can generate is somewhere inthe 2.5-3 range. Anything above that requires 220 or higher. I can whip out the calculations if you like. The 5hp is PEAK, which basically means under full load if it gets a power surge it will do 5hp. Nice little marketing ploy, but it happens all the time.

Edit: Just for fun, here's the math

1hp=745.6999 watts

120v*15amp (standard house amperage) = 1800 watts

1800 watts/745.669watt/hp= 2.4139... hp
