New products - Old products?

The Rainmaker
How do the rest of you handle your urge to try all the new products that keep showing up on the market?

I have to really discipline myself to keep from buying a new or improved polish, wax, sealant, whatever.
I really hate to waste anything so it is very difficult for me to throw good product away. Most of my friends think the drive-thru wash and wax is all that is necessary so giving something to them is about the same as throwing it away.

I use to buy anything that came out on the market that seemed better than the stuff I was using...you start to feel like a drug addict looking for a better high:D

What I find today is that I have tried enough of what is available in the market and I'm buying about as good as it gets....I also use up what I have before I take on something new again...I guess what I am saying is that I've learned enough that I believe that, process is 90% product is 10%

So I can get the desired results with about any product, so the cutting edge stuff doesn't always have an appeal.

That said one day I would like to try some of the higher end 100 buck plus paste waxes...just to see what comes of it....:D

If you have a lot of stuff give some thought to selling some off in 4 & 8 oz sizes for others to try out. Got a lot of stuff myself and am trying to inventory over the holidays to offer up some up to the community. All except my microfiber that is!

Thanks for the suggestion, but I tried that last June with less than great results.
My initial offering had:

Quick Detailers
Rinseless Wash
All Purpose Cleaners
A couple of polishes
A spray wax
Coatings
Protectants
Wash mitts, foam, wool, MF.
The list includes 16 different items
The liquid products were priced by the oz. and any quantity was an option from 4 oz. to 64 oz.

After a few days, I posted this comment:

The lack of interest has been somewhat of a surprise to me. So far, only 7 people have requested the list and none of them seem to want or need any of the items.
Maybe I'm just not patient enough, but if it stays this dormant, I won't leave the thread over a week.
I later removed the thread with this comment.

With the exception of 2 protectants, 1 APC and 1 foam wash mitt, all the products are still available.
While I have received several requests for more information, I have had only one buyer.
That seems to indicate a lack of interest so I will delete the thread after Tuesday, June 10th.
I don't have the patience to mess with that again.

I just turn around from my desk and open my detail product cabinet. Then I see tons of products to use and realize I must use what I've got. Simple but it works.

I am selling cake wax 100 bucks for a 2 oz jar...very high end it is a secret what it is made of..so if you guess turtle wax for 4.99 scraped into 2oz fancy jars...you would be wrong and I would sue for slander!

I look at the 2 year old fmj kit I have - unopened, still in the ups box and that reminds me...I have way to much stuff.

i have 5 or 6 waxes, qd's, tire dressings, the list goes on, what i do is use a different product from the products that i have and remind myself how good a product it is. for example i waxed my car the other day and used cg's 50/50 and when i was done i saw what a great job it did, no need to by more wax, all the waxes i have are imo top notch, don't waste your money because a new wax comes out, chances are it will give the same results as the waxes you already have in your arsenal. that's not to say all waxes are the same by any means, but where are we going with all this? it's been said before use what works for you and use it often. try not to be swayed by the marketing pitch for all these products, i.e. ultimate this maximum that bla, bla bla. just my opinion.

There is no question that a lot of Hype is involved with the new products.
That's one reason for trying them. To separate the facts from the hype.
For many years, I stayed pretty much within the 3M or Meguiar's lines and was very happy with the results.
Then I found an internet detailing site and away I went. :D

It wasn't necessarily a bad thing for me. If I hadn't started reading the internet sites, I would not have known about or started using:
1. Poorboy's Spray & Wipe
2. Microfiber towels
3. Sealants
4. Paint cleaner/prep products like Klasse AIO, Optimum Poli-Seal, Poorboy's PwS
5. Various APCs - Meguiar's, Poorboy's, Amazing Roll-Off
6. Woolite & water to clean leather
7. The Porter Cable polisher
8. S100 Carnauba wax (I didn't know you could buy a wax that didn't stain black plastic trim and leave white residue in crevices.
9. Poorboy's Bold n Bright to clean and dress tires in one application
10. Rinseless washes
11. Spray waxes that have some durability
12. Wipe on, walk away sealants
There's probably more that I'm not remembering, but that's enough. :)

That's all in the course of about 6 years and several items were in the last 2 or 3 years.

The products of today are great, but they are still being improved on continually.

I guess I'm afraid I will miss out on some truly amazing new product. :D

I will have to depend on those here at DC to tell me about the newest and greatest because I have so many products that I'm not going to buy anything until I use some of them up.
I passed up all the recent sales I'm NOT buying until I find some shelf space.

No one to give it too,All my friends think that a dollar extra at the tunnel wash for the spray wax is more than enough for the winters here.

It can be difficult but like you Charles I don't like to waste either.
So I just resist, unless it seems like it truely seems like it stands head and shoulders over what I am currently using.
If it's that good, it will still be there when, I need to reorder :D

This last sentence makes too much sense.:D.
If I went by this then I would not have 4 shelves of stuff I do not use.:passout:

there is only gloss it products that are worth testing
I have tested every other brand and have my favourites plus my own products
