New polisher quandry.......

Honestly I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

My personal collection

Makita rotary with different size BP
Flex PE8 3in, 2in, 1inBP
Flex 3401
GG 3in
GG G21 with 6in and 5in BP

One thing I still love about my 3401 is that I know that it's always correcting paint and doing it well. My biggest issue is how hot it gets doing hours of correction work.

My G21 is a dream to use. Especially with the washer mod and the GG microfiber cutting pads. But even with a line on the BP to check rotation I still am always concerned about the "stalling" effect. Even though it seldom happens.

For tight A and B pillars my pe8 almost always comes out.

Swanic, I put my soft upholstery brush on my 3401 and have been using it on my light carpet in the house. No more beating myself up.
Have you been able to update us if the Mach 2 update was worth it or not?

To add If Ron is about adding more shine to his vehicles he probably only needs the 15.

Sorry Sean, I meant to quote this response and hit "report" instead. it was an accident. Damn iPhone.

Anyway, I haven't had a chance to use the Mk II yet. However, I'll be using it TOMORROW (Fri) for the first time.

Car is washed, parked in garage and ready to go.

So, I will report back. The consensus seems to be it is noticeably more powerful from what I have read. I haven't seen anyone disappointed yet.

The fact that it can do it with a smaller motor, makes me think it's more efficient - which MAY mean it runs cooler. However, heat really hasn't been an issue with these polishers IMHO.

Mark ll, 21 with 5 inch bp, its a beast of a machine, i have 6 different machines, i will never stop using my makita...lol...but the rupes mark ll blows the 3401 out of the water....great great machine, sold my original rupes 21.....such a huge difference with the mark ll

I hope it's a new Rupes mark 2.

Can't wait to hear feedback. Only real think that keeps me from pulling the trigger is I find myself using the 3" on the whole car. I hate switching machines and re priming pads. I just plot along. Slow and steady. Good thing I'm not charging myself by the hour.

Quandry settled..........................

Pics on arrival.

I've never had a problem handling the 3401..

Just want something smoother. And I know Rupes is smoother.

Ron,

You owe it to yourself to try a new tech rotary. With variable RPM's ranging from 600-3000 they are not the rotarys from the 80's. Although, I've never used an 80's rotary, my Dewalt isn't much more sophisticated. I would love to update my 15-20 year old Dewalt, but it works perfectly.

I think you can't go wrong with the Rupes MKII, Flex 15, or the GG Boss. Maybe you can test drive the Flex Pe-14, nothing beats the smoothness of rotary.

Maybe after the ibird. :D (figure that will work perfect for the vents on car.........) {yep, that's how i'll have to sell it to jen}

My opinion only:

1. The 3401 is a PIA. It works - but it beats you up. Prolly good to work on some jacked up oxidized boats or something - but, who wants to work that hard?

This sums it up for me for me. I now have two almost new cars, albeit both in metallic black.. I consider the 3401 only for rough work, because it is a beast for that, but I've used it like twice.

I'm going to get rid of my 3401, and my 3403. I've found I use my Griots 6" for rough work, my PE-8 for spot work and tight places, and my Rupes 15 for finish/jeweling. Beyond that they're money in the cabinet.

My Griots 3" in order not to feel bad I'd have to pay someone to take it :-P

I figured my Rupes post would have been all the endorsement you needed. :)

I'm still loving my MarkII 21.

I liked the Boss 21 at first but I couldn't trust it after what happened and I didn't like the noise it made either. I did like the instant start feature but the slow start doesn't really bother me.

I think you made a good choice. Time to sell all the others. You won't want to use them anymore. :)
