I just received my new PC 7424. I tried it out today on my Jetta. About 3 min after I plugged it in, it got extremely hot. So hot I couldn't touch it. The gray part of the body got so hot it would burn you. The black plastic portion also got too hot to touch. It also started smoking under to plastic covers??? :nono

Also the machine would bog down with just the weight of the machine (no pressure by me) on #4 setting. If I added a little pressure by me on #6, it would completely stop. I would hope this it not "normal".

I was using a heavy duty extention cord (yellow one) and not the typical orange one. The cord is in good working order. Any suggestions before I return it? I'm kinda bummed right now. :furious:

I suspect the problem is that they forgot to put grease in the gear box when it was manufactured. If you want to check it, pull the front cover (plastic cover) off and pop off the cover. It should be full of red lithium grease.

Don't think the washer would make a difference in this case. If the pad were melting or separating, then the washer would be a possible problem.

I used my PC for the first time the other week also and mine got HOT but only after being on speed 6 for 10-15 minutes...does this seem normal? i Mean it got hot, but not hot enough for me not to hold it, it wasnt pleasant to hold it in some spots but i could still manage.

ok good...i figured that was normal for it to get relativley hot after 10-20 minutes of speed #6...I hope you get yours figured out Rumble

I think ekwarta was right. I didn't have the washer on. Seems to be working fine now. I'm not sure why a small little felt washer would make that much difference, but I guess it does. Thanks everyone.

That's certainly surprising.. The washer should only prevent heat from transferring to the backing plate/pads, and should have no bearing on the temperature of the metal part/handle part.
