New Paint & Car Q's

Hi All,

Just taken delivery of my new golf. I have the following products to hand:

Meguiars #7 & #26 (liquid)

Autoglym Super Resing and Extra Gloss

Zaino Z1 & Z2 (when it arrives)

Bunch of neatitems MFs

Meguiars Foam Pads

The car's a daily driver, whilst I don't mind spending a couple of hours each weekend I want whatever I use to have some longevity.

My plan of attack is to wash the car using dish soap (I'm in the UK so we don't have the famed "Dawn") to strip whatever crap the dealer valet used, then apply a coat of Z1 followed by Z2 if the weather holds good long enough. Initially I'm planning on seeing how good one coat looks, and taking it from there, but probably not on the same weekend.

Do I need to do anything different with regard to the products, or application with paint being new - it's grey anthracite metallic?

Much as I've searched the forums, this is my hard earned money, so even if it's the same answers I'd rather them be to my version of the question :-)

TIA

Paul

If your hard up on cash then this is the time to start detailing your car. You can save yourself from buying all kinds of products to fix a neglected surface and save yourself the money from buying a buffer because you need to work on your car all day to get decent results.

This is what I would recommend:

A clay bar

A nice car soap (Zaino makes one)

A weak polish for swirls:

3M SMR

or

Meguiars Swirl Mark Remover

You already have your Zaino.

Aside from that you will just need you interior stuff but you can keep your collection small if you are always detailing a car that is in great condition from the get go.

The claybar joed mentioned is always a nice step just to get the embedded debris out at the beginning. There is always some there! It's an easy step and worth it.

A paint cleanser or light abrasive "might" be necessary only if there is any damage or mars on the new paint. Other than that you are good to go with the Z1 and Z2.

I would suggest at least 3-4 coats especially on the horizontal surfaces. Follow the directions. If you don't have ZFX you can spread out the application over a weekend or two, no problem. I hope you got Z6 Gloss Enhancer, too. It's a great quick detailer and a good mate with Z2.

The durability of Zaino and the Staffs weather will work well together! Cheers! ;)
