Hello everybody,

I'm a newbie and would like to learn more about the detailing aspect of cars. I have a 1994 Chevy Impala that's my daily driver and as such it has a couple of war wounds, fine scratches and swirl marks. One thing I'm concerned is I just got married a year ago and since then it sits out in the weather all day and night, is their any detailing steps that I can take to keep the paint looking good. More than once a year waxing, certain brand products to use, etc. Oh yeah, its a black car.

Thanks,
Mag

Welcome to the Site! All of the information that you need to keep your car clean is on this site! Give Scott P @ Specialtymotoring.com a call (he's a sponsor in this forum) he is located in Houston as well. One more thing, get some pics of your Impala, I love that body style :howdy

The major thing that I want to learn is using quality products, techniques, the do's and dont's when detailing if any. I intend to keep my car for another 10years so keep her looking good inside and out is very important.

Welcome to DC! All of the information you are inquiring about can be found by doing a bit of reading. This site is filled with a huge amount of information and the best way to learn is to read. Welcome to the site from Sonoma County CA...as for what would be a good choice for a car that sits out all year....I would use a sealant and lay down a couple of coats...its a tougher finish on the surface and would still give you a great looking shine....of course your going to want to reome the swrils and polish before this, but as an outside car and the heat and cold in TX that would be my choice

Okay I kinda know what a polish is and what a finish polish or wax is, but what exactly is a sealant? As far as swirl marks, I have used X-Scratch by Meg. I think that's what it's called and I didn't like using it, is there another product that I can use?

Okay so what line of products would you recommend, I'm currently using Meg's NXT wax. I really want to stop using products found at the local auto parts and start using the best, the stuff the professionals use.

Oh yeah, I do all my waxing by hand, apply it and remove it, just like Daniel Son. Is it necessary to use a power polisher to get a good detail job?

A sealant is like varnish for wood puts a very protective coating over the outside of the car....there is allot more to it than that but in simple terms that's about it...For me when I started posting here I found Poorboys World products and have been using them for the last several years now...they are extremely user friendly, can be used in the sun if need be, inexpensive in comparison to some, works good by hand as well as machine. His polish with Carnuba is a great one step product that I think is the best that I have seen, again for the money. The swirls removers are also good and again by hand can produce real good results....Steve at PB is a sponsor at this site you can find the link on the main page.

There is also Poorboys forum at the bottom of the forums page that you can read all about his products and applications
