Hello from Atlanta!

Well, some guy destroyed my econobox Ford Fiesta last month so it's time to upgrade a little bit.

I have a 2014 Subaru Impreza Sport Limited in Satin White Pearl on order. Scheduled to be delivered August 5, hopefully sooner though. I've typically used Zaino products for the last decade but I noticed when I started researching car care that there's some new great stuff out there as well.

Already touching base with an Xpel installer to see about getting that on the front of the Impreza. I have a 90 mile round trip commute so my car sees significant freeway time. I had originally set aside ~1k for a HU upgrade but will divert a fair amount towards the Xpel instead. I can always add the HU later. Paint protection is best done day 1. Hoping to get full frontal coverage. But I'll settle for bumper and partial depending on price.

As for the rest of the car I'm considering either Optimum's Opti Coat 2.0 or Pinnacle's Black Label Surface Protection. I know there's a couple other options out there as well that I need to research more. Not interested in paying someone to detail and coat my car as I've always handled those duties in the past. When I sold my 2005 Mustang GT everyone who looked at it commented that the paint still looked new and I was very proud of that. I expect to be able to do the same with the Impreza. A pro could do better than me for sure but this will be a DD that racks up 25,000+ miles per year. It will be impossible to keep it perfect.

That being said, I'm not to proud to ask for and follow advice. So I welcome any and all suggestions!

Is Zaino still highly regarded or is most people's opinion that it's better to go with one of the newer coatings that last 1-2 years or more? With the Xpel I'm not looking at the coatings all that much for protection and I'll wash the car every 1-2 weeks anyway. I've always loved the shine I get from Zaino and still have a fairly good stock of supplies on hand. What I'm lacking is Z-2 though so if there's a time to switch it's probably now.

Thanks!

Jason

Welcome to AF! HU-head unit? I haven't used any Zaino products but of the newer 2 coatings you listed you would probably have a much easier time applying the Pinnacle Black Label. Awesome car BTW.

Welcome!

My wife has 2013 Subaru Impreza Premium in Satin White Pearl and my brother has a 2014 in ice silver metalic. Satin White Pearl really pops when freshly waxed. So far I've only used Collinite 845 as a LSP and like the look it provides. Her's is long over due for a full spring correction. So whenever I find a free weekend I'll be sure to do a follow-up review on how it turns out/ products used.

Enjoy your Subie - great car.

Sweet ride! It's great you're going to protect it asap.

Welcome to AF! HU-head unit?

+1. HU = Head Unit? I've been shopping for a new head unit too. I just started a full sound dampening install (CLD tiles, foam, MLV) and will slowly start upgrading everything.

Sorry, yes. HU = Head Unit. Looking at Pioneer's NEX series as it will support Apple's CarPlay and we're an Apple household. Alpine is coming out with aftermarket CarPlay HU's too so hoping that drives the price down a bit.

@Vega - I'll be going the CLD tiles, foam, and MLV route as well. But down the road. The car is coming with the Kicker speakers. Not the best I know but not terrible either. Less than $300 installed for the tweeters and 4 door speakers. Not a horrible value. And I'm no audiophile.

@Angus - Glad to hear on the Satin Pearl White! When we went to a dealership to check out the colors it really jumped out at both of us. A little easier to keep looking clean doesn't hurt!

Thanks for the welcome to all of the others!

welcome to AF Jason. don't forget to post some pics of your new ride and your detail when you get started. :welcome:
