New member - looking for advice

Hi everyone, I just joined the board and wanted to obtain some advice about which applications would work with my specific car.

The subject in question is a Speed Yellow P-car with minor swirls which can only be seen when close to the car.

I've read read and read and see so many different products all with fantastic results but the product abbreviations just confuse me?

I'm going to go ahead and purchase a PC and wanted to have some options for Shampoo/Polish and Wax.

In the past I've used Zaino by hand on my M3 with good results but never got around to treating the swirls - so just trying to get serious and do things right this time.

Thank you all and this is a fantastic place![/B

PS: If it helps I've been advised on getting the following but arn't there cheaper or easier alternatives instead buying all these items, I'm simply fter a very wet finish and something thats easy to apply on this color:

PO106FF-32 Menzerna Nano Polish: 32oz (1 Quart)

Menzerna Super Intensive Polish: 32oz (1 Quart)

Lake Country 7.5" CCS Orange Foam Polishing Pad (Curved)

Lake Country 7.5" CCS White Foam Polishing Pad (Curved)

Lake Country 148mm Back Plate for DA

Menzerna Top Inspection

Zymöl Smart Kit: Concours/Treat

Zymöl Lehm Klay II

Zymöl Lehm Lube

Welcome aboard. :welcome

There is so much great info here and tons of fantastic and talented people that you will become addicted very fast. To help with the abbreviations, start here: http://autopia.org/forum/car-detailing/99979-acronym-decoder-complete-11-26-07-a.html

If you used zaino in the past and like the results then by all means stick with it. I'm quite new at this stuff myself so I'll let some more experienced people chime in.

BTW - nice car.

Big Jim, thank you so much! Atleast now I can start searching into products... :-)

And JSwift thanks for the compliments and info! Zaino was good but the labor just took ages by :lol

The products you mentioned are of very high quality and there are certainly folks who get excellent results with them. But yes, there are less expensive products that many people also find effective. In the end it comes down to what you find works best for you, personally.

As a minimum, if you’re looking to save money without compromising performance, I’d suggest looking for bulk-packaged products for the tasks you’ll do most often. Shampoos and quick-detailers, for instance, are usually used up fastest and buying them in large sizes pays off.

As you settle in around here (and look at older threads) you’ll find references to lots of products from lots of vendors, many of them very reasonably priced, that give great results when applied diligently, using good technique.

Exactly the kind of advice I was looking for, thanks!

Maybe it is just me, but, 7.5" pads are pretty large. Especially with a PC. I am sure there are detailers out there that will argue with me, but I only use a pad that big with my rotary. You will be able to get the swirls out much easier and without the need of a strong polish with a smaller pad. I never go larger than 6" with the PC and it looks like you are going to be working with some pretty small panels with that car. I use 6", 5.5" and 4" pads with the PC. A 7.5" pad just seems to be too much pad for a machine the size of the PC. I jsut don't think you need a pad that big (again, I am sure that there are plenty of people out there ready to jump my ship over this.)

106FF and SIP will have a tough time breaking down with those large pads. Other than that the Menz line is fantastic. Not the biggest fan of Zymol stuff but then again I am sure it is just as good as the stuff I like.

Just trying to help!!

Personally I don't want to go the zymol route, therefore looking for other suggestions.

Thanks again, and I'll be going for the 6" pads for the PC.
