New machine on the block

Hi everybody.

I've been looking around since long but never really took the step forward to post so these are my first words.

I'm looking at several polishers to upgrade from my PC and a rotary that tends to heat up and stop working after a heavy work -good machine but definitely not for continuous heavy professional work-. I've got my eye pointing at the Makita 9227 and a Flex-Tools L 602 VR (not very well known in the States).

But what really makes me stop and think is this new dual-action I found at the Flex website:

It looks like some kind of blend between the dual-action and the rotary, like a next gen DA. What's interesting about it that it's quite more powerful than the PC and has a larger orbit, which I find really tempting. It has the electronic regulation tipical of the rotarys meaning soft start, constant speed control blah blah blah and progressive triger instead of the on-off switch.

I mean it is really really tempting but I tend to be very enthusiastic like kid with new toys so I hope to read your comments and opinions.

You see it really looks like a rotary

What do you think?

Hmm, interesting. IIRC there may have been a post some time back about this tool. However I think then it was listed as the European version of the PC.

Be nice to get some actual input from someone who has used it though.

Thanks for the heads up

The problem is it's actually so new that nobody has tried it. I've been looking at that web regularly since I'm looking for a new rotary and it has appeared during the last couple of months.

Flex makes wonderful machines, but they are now a sub division of Porter cable.

I have the L3403VRG, very light only 1,9kg( 4,1lbs) and powerful 1300watt.

The new Flex looks awsome :)

Hey porta, nice to meat you. Maesal, a friend of mine, has told me wonders about you (he surely reads this).

That is exactly the rotary I have since 2 years now and I really admire its lightweight and power but it gets really hot and thats a problem when working for hours and hours on hard coated vehicles. I was just looking for the next model, the heavy and 1500W L 602 VR when I realized this new dual action.

BTW I know you work a lot with Menzerna same as I do so I would like to ask you about PG cutting techniques and dust but that would go a bit off-topic.

Hello,

Yes it tends to get a little bit hot, but only if you work with long(in a detailing shop 8h/day) or If you have to large pads, I only uses 16cm/6,5". As I am a weekend warrior I have no problem with heat. But if I was working with detailing car I would step up to a Makita,Hitachi or a larger Flex just like the one you were talking about.

Well I hate to say it but I think I have to order a XC 3401 VRG to this spring :chuckle:

Found it Germany for 269€ for the whole kit

::SHOP-SELTMANN:: MARKENPRODUKTE FÜR PREISBEWUSSTE!

Yepp, I do work with Menzerna, send me a PM so can this thread don´t go more off topic.

Yeah that's my case, 10H a day. I think I'll go Flex for the heavy duty rotary instead of the Makita (more power and maybe cooler machine). I usually use smaller pads. For polishing my experience tells me the smaller the better and Menzerna's pads and wools are the best I've found and are only 5".

So quickly have you decided to get it?! :wow: That price is good and it's the full pack incl. bag, pad and wax! I'm getting it. So strange they only have 2 polishers and only the new one from Flex. I'll MP you for some details about this shop and the PG dusting problem.

Thanks porta.

Yeah Flex tools are great, considering that they are entirely Porter Cable tools. The only difference between Flex and Porter Cable is where they are made. Flex is made in Germany for the European market and Porter Cable is made in Tennessee for the North American market. They use the same parts and everything.

Yes I know, but I have never seen a small buffer like the L3403VRG from PC? All the american buffers I know is large and bullky like the Dewalt 849(?) far away from the smaller german buffers.

Could you show me a small and powerful buffer from PC?

hmmm... kinda reminds me of the griots polisher which had more power than the pc, but when used by some, the pc seem to perform better....

You know I looked at the flex web page and their rotory polishers look a great deal like the Matavo I just purchased. I would like to fine more information on the XC3401 URG orbit polisher . Weight, Power and a distributors and price.

Its growen in size bigger than present model 7424 Porter Cable sold now. How easy is this machine to handle especially since it know requires the attention of both hands.

If portor cable owns flex than don't you think that they will simply duplicate this same model under the Portor Cable name. After all if this is the next generation of orbit polishers I cann't see them not wanting to please an audience of tool enthusiast who already are looking for the newest and best on the block here in the USA. Sort of sounds like Mercedes & chrysler.

If I am wrong please tell me you opinion of what your take is on this new model introduction.

Also did anyone notice Girots new Orbital polisher????

Some disapointing news from flex of North America. The Flex model XC 3401 VRG is not availible for american consumation. no particular reason given.

Any of our European forum conterparts can contact me as I am now looking to purchase this model polisher. [email protected]

Well I find the XC is actually so new I can't find it anywhere but the Flex webpage. There's also some technical info: weight 2,6KG, 900Watt power. No price nor distributors yet.

Who knows maybe we see a black and grey Porter Cable version of this in the future for the American market. I have to check out the PC webpage yet in case it is already present.

Pretty sure Griot's are Mosay Polishers.

porter cable is now owned by black & decker. I was told at lowes. My pc finally gave out, but I think it is just the cord. Went to get one from lowes and died in 4 days. Got another one. So far so good.

PC, B&D, DeWalt, and Delta are all owned by B&D.

What a nice discussion and machines.

Nice to see you here Dédalo.

I'll be waiting for more new about this Flex.
