New M3 delivery, a bet with the dealer.

A good friend of mine just picked up a brand new 2003 M3, black with imola red leather int. The car is beautiful. We took delivery of the car dirty, and i mean dirty. There was a thick crust of dirt, water spots and so forth. There was also a deep scratch on the hood, (about 1 inch long) that you could feel with your finger nail. I spoke to the manager of the detail shop and he was very annoyed. He was annoyed that I told the dealer not to have the car detailed. He explained to me that he went to management begging to detail the car, he didn't understand why we wanted to take a 62k car home filthy. I explained what I wanted to do, and he started to say oh youll get scratches by washing it, etc. So he then told me he uses MF towels, and all different types of foam cutting pads. So I said fine i'll wash the car with my zaino wash and i will bring it back to you to do it tuesday but i bet you will put swirls and buffer marks in it. He then said fine, ill bet you 50 bucks that the car will come out perfect, no swirls or buffer marks. So we agreed. The car will go in tommorow, and i am going to watch him do it. There is ground in dirt stains and etched on water spots that i know a glaze cannot hide. I will inspect it in his shop lights and in the sunlight. Here are pictures of the car after Z7 and Z6.

Ali Just Might Have A M3 To Redo!

Wow, I hope it comes out alright. If not, this will be your favorite site- you'll find enough help here to make that gorgeous M3 look perfect!

And if you still are not happy with it, I'll trade you my 3 series!

It is AlBoston, he's been around this site for awhile :D

AlBoston, Looks like a good bet. You might lose $50 though :p

Make sure he doesn't do a compound/polish, and the glaze over the buffer swirl marks to hide them. He could actually do a decent job now to make $50 off you. That might be a good way to get a aweome detail by a Pro. Make a bet with them.

When you come to pick up the car, be sure to bring a spray-bottle containing a 50:50 solution of water/alcohol and some of your best MF towels....make sure this joker doesn't try to glaze over any imperfections. Hopefully, he belongs to the 20-30% of dealership detailers who knows what he's doing.

Can't wait to hear how this turns out.

I thought all BMWs were shipping in enclosed trailers so rock chips, bugs, and rain didn't affect the car. I think audi's are shrink wrapped (as opposed to the plastic covers on just the fenders) except for an "accesss pannel" at the drivers door. it may be some other company except audi, but that's the way all cars should be.

They are shipped in enclosed trailers. Thing is though, you don't how long the car sat at the docks in Germany or the Vehicle Processing Center in the US so there's plenty of time for the car to get really dirty, especially this time of the year. :(

There's only one problem with the bet. There's a good chance if not a solid chance that it will come out swirl free, but the glaze will wash off in the next wash and then you'll see the marring. Hope this counts under the bet. Either way it'd take more than $50. I hope lose the bet BTW, definately worth it to have a good detail :)

Yea, the trailers they are delivered in are cool, they have a picture of a BMW and say, "We're delivering someone's baby". Cute, but if it comes dirty, cute can take a hike.

So... how did it turn out?!?!?! (Maybe I should be on AIM right now asking Ali, but forget that... I better go to sleep)

John, I don't think an owner of a fine German automobile like you, would like to trade yours for a Toyota Altezza... I mean... Lexus IS300. Geez, what happened to BMW's brand loyalty?

;) :D

Do you mean like this? Here are a couple pics of a VW Jetta TDI Wagon just off the truck.

Could you imagine seeing a bow on that puppy and opening it up x-mas morning, then opening it up to find a S4 or S6 :bow

Maybe the new owner could leave the shrink wrap on all winter,

Spray the chassis with lots of WD-40, clean it up next spring.

Hey, at least it wouldn't be covered with the salt spray.
