New Image Van Build

Well last year we acquired a 2003 GMC Savana for a new dedicated work vehicle. Van was in pretty decent shape, given the fact that work vans get destroyed in most situations.

Here’s a list of the main work that we’ve done thus far to the van. All the work has been done by us.

- Full paint correction and interior detail (duh)

- Vinyl graphics installed (we did this ourselves to save money)

- Installed alarm and power door locks

- Installed camera and rear view mirror monitor

Here are some initial shots of the van when we got it.

Let’s first start with the interior. The rubber flooring with filthy, as to be expected considering it’s a work van.

Gutted the interior.

Front cabin flooring before.

IMAG0867.jpg

Soaked with APC

IMAG0868.jpg

Brushed down and rinsed with ONR, didn’t want to rinse with pressure washer and risk getting the carpet jute wet.

After – sprayed down with 303 for a mild sheen and protection.

IMAG0869.jpg

Trim panels received the same process as the flooring.

IMAG0871.jpg

Flooring and trim panels in the back end received all the same care as the front. No pictures of that.

Wheels were a little cloudy

IMAG0899.jpg

Polished with 105 and the 3” Griot’s DA

IMAG0901.jpg

Initial paint condition. No surprise as to the amount of defects.

Started off with D300 and MF cutting pad. Restored clarity and removed a lot of defects, but the results were just not satisfactory.

Kicked it up a notch to a surbuf pad and M105 – this did the trick

Some 50/50s

Before and after of initial cutting stage, no finish polishing steps yet.

Here’s a shot after finish polishing was complete. More finished pics later.

Now onto some of projects that we did to make it more personal to us.

Before picture of the passenger back wall – useless

IMAG0903.jpg

After - installed white pegboard – much more useful

IMAG0904.jpg

Next up is the alarm, power door locks, camera and monitor

IMAG1002.jpg

Alarm pre-wired with relays to run the door locks

IMAG1003.jpg

Door lock actuators ready to go in (need these if your vehicle doesn’t come equipped with power door locks)

IMAG1005.jpg

Rear door done

IMAG1006.jpg

Running the wire through the boot was fun (do it right)

IMAG1007.jpg

Had to make my own boots for the side doors as they had no power running to them from factory

IMAG1011.jpg

Made my own brackets

IMAG1012.jpg

Front doors complete, looks factory (as its suppose to)

IMAG1014.jpg

Camera looking good

DSC00821.jpg

Backup cam/monitor works like a charm (engages when put in reverse, again, done right)

IMAG1018.jpg

Next up were the graphics

White perforated vinyl laid over the back windows

IMAG0956.jpg

Back complete

Ready for the passenger side

That’s about all I have snapped of the van right now. It’s wicked glossy in person.

Still have some minor mechanical things to work on, but the van looks good and hopefully it can attract some good attention our way.

Stay tuned for the next 2 writeups

Very nice use of the interior space of the van, and beautiful job with the correction. I love the decal's...they look really good!

Looks great! I'm actually thinking about a van like that now.

What's your plans for a tank and pressure washer?

wow she was a dirty girl! Looks like you did an amazing makeover though, the really bad ones are always the most satisfying to clean up though. . I don't think you'll have any problems with first impressions in that.

Thank you all for the kind remarks, we're happy with the van thus far. We plan to keep making changes/upgrades to improve our processes and become more profitable.

Kody, looks good! I saw it the other day around town, it does stand out! You getting a water tank to put in?

Your van looks fantastic. Very nice work! I wish you much success!

One question though... Why did you blur out your phone number?

LOL, I had the same thought. :)

Terrific job on her though! That will make the right first impression I'm sure.

Thanks buddy, let me know if you want to get together sometime. I have a water tank it in, but it's usually empty unless we are going to the RV park.

Some forums do not allow "advertising" so out of respect for them I blurred it. I suppose I could have left it off for Autopia.

OMG that is very cool that you did it all on your own, bro! Would like some shots of the van w/ all the equipment in place too. Have fun with that Black AMG!
