Hey guy I am new on here I have been in the autobody field for 5years then got stuck behind a desk for 3 years. I am in Tampa now and would like to start mobile detailing in a year or so for myself right now I work at a small shop learning the ins and outs.

Your doing the right thing. Getting paid to learn before trying to earn and support yourself is a good move.

One thing I would suggest is do as much research on running a business as possible. Start small and build momentum. Sit down with an accountant who is familiar with what you want to accomplish. This will give you an idea of how you need to operate financially. You will be able to run numbers properly to get an accurate ballpark of what you need and want to make. He/she can also let you know what items are fully deductible and depreciated.
Find out what permits, licenses, insurance costs you need talk with people in those areas.
I would suggest looking into LLC's as an operating platform for some personal protection. You can do it as a sole proprietor but you need to carry much more insurance.
As far as tricks and tips for detailing you found the right place.

Here are a couple books that can get you started.

I highly recommend this book to anyone in sales or business

9 Super Simple Steps to Entrepreneurial Success. By Marty Grunder

This will give you a basic understanding before you talk w an accountant:

The complete Idiots guide to accounting. By Lita Epstein and Shellie Moore.

Also talk with a SCORE representative in your area it's free advice from someone who has been there.

Best of luck and welcome to AF!
