New Guy from Ohio with a 7424xp kit needs some product advice

So i've been a long time lurker on here, and today decided to take the plunge and purchase at 7424xp kit and jump into the detailing game. Here is a link to the kit I bought.

Pinnacle polishes, pinnacle swirl remover, porter cable swirl remover, porter cable kit

I have a white 200 buick regal of my own that im going to learn on, and my family has a silver 99 cadillac from a deceased family member that needs detailed to be sold. I've only used over the counter products before, such as Meguiars ultimate compound with terry cloths and had decent success.

Now that i have a buffer, can you guys give me some product guidance as to what I should order next as a beginner? I have a bottle of meguiars gold wash, some nice washing mits, and my new 7424xp kit. I need to know what compounds and pads a beginner should start with for a moderately swirled car (both of these vehicles are carwash queens).

Thanks in advance guys :becky:

Depends on where in Ohio you are from for advice. :)

Kidding- I think it depends on what type of use you expect from your polisher. There are more polishes and pad combos then you can imagine and everyone seems to have the "best", but it is more about the procedure and technique for me that equates to success.

If you want some polishing pads and finishing pads, PM me. I bought a bit too many at the end of last year and then the MF pads came out so I bought a bunch of them- sort of a sickness.

You are in Ohio so you are close to Tim at PrepExcellence. Not sure they still have the 2 day detail class, but it was pretty affordable when I lived in Dayton for a year. If you are in northern Ohio, even better! :)

Thanks for the advice. I pm'd you about the pads as well. I tried looking up prepexcellence on google and came up pretty much empty. Any link to these guys?

If you have ultimate compound, thats a good place to start since the kit comes with a polish. You are going to need a good polishing pad, like a lake white, actually multiple pads of each. Otherwise I'd recommend you grab some UNO, it cuts well and is probably the most newbie friendly compound there is.

Lastly, never, ever, ever do the whole car at once, pick a test area, execute your plan, then decide if the plan is right for the whole car.
