New GM cloth seat material

Having a problem cleaning new cloth seats on most GM products, specifically the Equinox, and Malibu models. The materials are so cheap, when cleaned, there is usually a cleaning spot left on the material. Even if cleaned with water, there is a water spot left. Starting to see more and more customer cars come back for details (through service), and the seats are saturated with sweat and dirt which the customers of course think should be removed. I remember having a problem with seats like this on a VW Beetle a couple of years ago, and that turned into a night mare. Any tips on cleaning, or is it "it is what it is"?

I know exactly what you're talking about! I worked at Chevy for a summer cleaning cars and those seats are so cheap. I cleaned new cars so we didn't have a problem with them being dirty but my grandma has a VW Bug and her seats are the same way. It looks like she went to the bathroom in her seat because its stained so bad but its from when she left the sunroof open (so she says!). I have scrubbed with everything and it looks just as bad when I'm done. I'm thinking the only thing that will work is a steam cleaner or carpet shampooer that you can scrub and lift at the same time. I'm going to try my Shark Steamer on the gmas next time while using the shopvac to suction at the same time.

I know what your talking about. The ford focus has the same type of seats. Your best bet is not to spray the cleaner or water on the seat. Take a terry cloth towel, spray a small amount of cleaner on the rag, don't soak the rag. And lighty clean the surface of the seat. You may have to turn the rag and repeat but this should take care of your problem.

many of the car companies use a nylon based material now. gm went that route a couple of years ago and i have cringed since. the above methed is the best because even plain water will stain. the worst part is the new mini vans(sv6, uplander, relay) are only offered in light interior trim :censored: :censored: to say this gives me nightmares is an understatement.

I agree with TrueDetailer. We take care of Enterprises(Ford) vehicles and their seats are a b****, white terry cloth rag is the way to go with the cleaner applied to the cloth. We have had to resort using ProSol to get some of the stains out.

I think even worse than the seats is the fact that the headliners use this same material. Talk about a nightmare to clean without risking the "fabric" delaminating from its backing.

I'm just waiting for the day when GM starts using straight-up cordura (like duffel bag material) for its interiors. I'll think I've died and gone to hell. Honestly at this point it'd be better if only vinyl and leather interiors were offered. Talk about easy to clean!!

We've tried everything, the main chemical that we use on it is adhesive/spot remover which does ok, but dries almost immediately. We've done the spray on the rag technique and that still doesn't work, even used fabric sealer but that doesn't work either. We contacted the Chevy Rep and he of course had no clue. No info., no bulletin, no nothing. Another wonderful product form our friends at GM. If you all hear of anything, let me know. Thanks.

p.s. I would'nt recommend using a steam cleaner on it guys. The foam pad will be soaked underneath causing all of the dirt to rise to the surface and stain the fabric meaning your problem just expanded 10 fold.

i work at a local shop/car dealer and we sell subaru, buick, pontiac, and gmc, and it never fails, the seats in the rendevous r BY FAR the WORST i have came across in my few yrs exp!!! we have had a *so-called* interior specialist with his products come in and see what he could do, and he had extreme trouble with spotting, and this isnt even with a hardcore stain, im talkin a minor stain. i cringe when i see a rendevous come tot he shop, cuz i know with out lookin inside, the seats are gonna be hell, lol

Rendevous are bad, but so are the Aztek, G6, Malibu, Torrent/Equinox.... basically the same crappy material that gets extremely prone to spotting. I hate it!

2005, 2006 montana sv6's i find are even worse than the rendezvous.:wall i dread the day all g.m. vehicles use this material.
