New Dewalt 443

After using this great machine the only fault I can find is that the variable speed button is close to where you hold it and by accident I have increased or decreased the speed with no intention to do so. Other than that I find this machine a pleasure to use, and I'm completly satisfied with the results. Have not touched my cyclo since purchasing it.Gary

Gary does it not bog? Does it keep polishing very consistently? Any opinions on why this might be better than a PC?

I bought it at Amizon.com I think it was around 150 bucks or so. One strong point how it differs from the PC is that the motor is MUCH heavier duty and it will not bog down like the PC does. Which means you can cut and level paint without the risk of making swirls like the high speed. One sweet machine. Gary

I got mine about a year ago, and I'm very happy with it. It doesn't bog down even if I put moderate pressure to it, it gets the job done quickly:xyxthumbs

It has more power than the pc, but the downside is I find it to be very noisy. Anyone have the same problem?

The Dewalt does a much better job of polishing, deep cleaning, even light compounds work great. I only use my dapc now to apply finishing products now. nothing else. I'm spoiled. Gary

Since you have both it and a Cyclo, how does it compare? Do you use the Cyclo anymore?

Thanks, I am about to buy one or the other. I have a rotary, but I am tired of the mess I always have with the rotary. The cyclo sounded about right for the in-between I was looking for, but now you have my interest piqued with the Dewalt.

Thanks for your help.

Sam, I would go for the DeWalt 443, don't use the cyclo at all since I bought the Dewalt, you will be a happy camper. I'm with ya on the rotary, too dangerous, most of the time not needed. and a mess. Dewalt, safe to use. does a nice job correcting paint, no mess, no worry, just fantastic results. turbomangt,

Can the backing plate be remove and are the backing plates for the PC compatible with the Dewalt. I need to be able to use 5 and 3 inch plates.

Not sure about the backing plate, had no need to remove it. It came with a velcro back, and it the same size as the dapc so I'm able to use all my exsisting pads with it. sorry I can't help on that one. Gary

Gary you can help with this one. You could check your machine and see if the plate can be removed. The Porter Cable takes backing plates that have a 5/16" diameter shaft.

At some point you will need to replace that plate and it should be removeable. You can see if the Dewalt will take a plate that fits a PC. If the plate is not removeable or the machine is not compatible with the many plates that are made for the PC that would be a major negative against the Dewalt for me.

Thanks

:D very true. Overall its really nice, considering I got it for around $50. It's a very powerful machine.

I also haven't changed my backing plates yet, they work great.

There are four screws that hold the backing plate on. I purchased mine from Woodworker's Supply. They also sell replacement backing pads. It's a great machine and not much more than a PC. Here's the link: http://woodworker.com/cgi-bin/search.exe?BP=1 Look under the category: power tools electic, then subcategory orbital sanders. The Dewalt DW443 is on the first page.

I bought a custom made backing plate for my DW443 today. It is manufactured by one of the pad manufacturers in my country. Now, it's in 5" size instead of the original 6" (150mm). To replace the backing plate, you have to remove the 4 torx screws. I find it to be very noisy as compared to rotary buffers. My unit runs from 4000-7600opm. There are several versions, and I think UK's version runs much faster than this.

So as I understand, the Dewalt 443 makes rotating and orbital movenment like a PC.

If so, then I'm lucky because they sell this here in BElgium, were I cannot find a PC for that price ! (Have to order in the States + buy a 110-220 volt converter...)

Does de Dewalt 443 accept the SFX or DAS pads as sold here in the shop ?
