New Cyclo Dual Precision Pads

I have been given an early preview of some new pads from Cyclo and I believe they have done all detailers right by this new upgrade.

The first Cyclo pads were rubber booties attached to the foam pads. They were a real pain to get on and off but they were always centered. Then they came out with rubber booties which had velcro attached to them, the pads having velcro on them also. Switching out pads was now a breeze but you had to center the pads yourself which was not always fun. Get a pad to far to one side and you had foam shavings everywhere.

Now Cyclo has again upgraded their pads and they way they are attached. Gone are the velcro booties and in their place are two seperate posts and the new pads now lock into those posts. There is now the best of both worlds, they are easy to change out and they are always centered!!

So here are the pads:

I first removed the old velcro pad holders via my handy dandy Metabo wrench....lost my Cyclo wrench!

After the old pads are removed you simply screw in the new posts, tighten them down.

Here the Cyclo is all done with its new posts ready for its new pads. Took me about 5 minutes so far.

Now all you do is line up the pad with the post and push down, takes some light pressure but you hear it SNAP right into place.

Here both pads are on and secure ready for some polishing. Notice the extra thickness of the pads? They are actually two pads bonded together so after polishing one side of the car one would normally wash out the pads but now all you need to do is remove the pads, flip them over and keep on polishing.

The foam on the orange pads also feels different.....not sure how different just yet....just different. I also like the idea of the two different grade pads bonded together like in the below picture.....we have the finishing white bonded with the green cutting pads. I'm not a big user of the green pads but here the foam also feels different, softer, more flex and more give. I'll see how they work as I put them through their paces tomorrow.

*Edit - I wrote this last week and have had the chance to use these pads on several cars now, both single and dual stage, and they work fantastic. The pads are centered each time, they change out super fast and the white pads now feel as if you're buffing on a cloud:D

I'm not sure how many pads will be made available for this new system but even though i have blue and black 4in pads for the Cyclo, I never use them.

I get all the results I need from white and orange....every so often I'll use the blue pads.

Hopefully Cyclo will also update their brushes with the quick change (ala Edge pad) locking system so you can switch out the carpet and upholstery brushes quickly and easily

Great idea! I'd buy that because I imagine it would fit on my PC as well. I've been using these pads on my PC for a while now as I was lucky enough to get my hands on a pre-production set and they are great. It's so easy now to change pad size from 6" to 4" because there is no more backing plate to change.

Are those marketted under the Cyclo name? They look identicle to the Edge system.

Edge is making them for Cyclo, who will be selling them from their web site in the near future.

Actually, I believe that I saw that Automagic is already marketing these pads with some of their polishes and waxes as part of a guaranteed swirl free system.

Edge makes AM's pads.

Hey Anthony, or anyone else with an informed opinion, regarding the orange Cyclo pads.. has anyone else had a problem with them losing their elasticity fairly quickly?

I used mine maybe once or twice, washed them and stored them in a ziplock baggie. When I went to use them recently, they soaked up the polish and then seemingly collapsed down to about half of their normal thickness. Anyone else have this problem, or did I maybe just overload the pads?

Anthony,

How far is the metal connector from the outer pads's working surface? It's difficult to judge by the photo. Good safety margin in your opinion?

These are going to be sold under the Cyclo name exclusively and I'm sure places that carry Cyclo will soon be having them.

This happens over time but not after just a few uses. I have some orange pads that have seen at least 25 cars.

Ron and I clean our pads with water and a mild cleaner and then many times use compressed air to dry them. Our steamers work well also and I notice they also fluff the pads back up.

There is almost an inch of foam from the top of the post plus the hard center core so one would have to press down very hard in order to compress the foam enough so that the post is exposed.

Anthony, do you happen to know what is the thread size on Cyclo/posts? In other words, is it regular PC thread size?

Thank you in advance!

Zoran......... Yes the threads on the Cyclo are the same as those on the PC. I know this because I have used the Cyclo brushes with my PC as well as the small Cyclo pad heads/bonnets for tight areas.
