New & Could Use Some Help

Hey guys,

Here is my situation. I bought 3 cars in the past year, 2 black and 1 red, and have been cleaning them regularly, but I need to step up my detailing game. I don't know where to begin and am new to this level of detailing. My one black is a beamer and that thing is pretty much in mint condition, minor swirls. The second black is a range rover and is all messed up with swirls and scratches everywhere. The red is an exotic thats mint too. I use meguires for washing, mother's for claying, and I use meguires gold class liquid wax. I am in the market for a PC, but don't have a clue as to the process I should be following from wash to finish, don't know what pads I need or to use and with what products. Any and all suggestions will help. Thanks.

Welcome to the site...your questions are very valid but I would suggest that you start with the search feature here...it will give tons of answers to these questions and more....Once you have read those it will become more clear.

The answers to these questions have so many variables that that it would be difficult or even more confusing with the answers.

It sounds like you already have a good idea of the process needed, but simply put it is, wash, clay, polish, protect. The products and procedures used will vary considerably depending on the vehicle condition, personal tastes, and time available. Browse the forum and look at some of the work that other members have posted to see what they are useing, and what appeals to you. That should help you to further define your game plan. Welcome to the City, there's a lot to learn here.

I would definitely agree with what's been posted above. Your best bet is to search and read as much as possible. I did that when I first joined and it helped tremendously.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I'm doing my searches as we speak, it just can get overwhelming at times with all of the options out there, but there really is no one right way, so I guess its more of a trial and error. Thanks again.

I don't know if it will help, but I can tell you what I did when I first started out. First, I decided that if I was going to get into detailing, I was going to do it right. Then I decided that product price needed to be relatively low because of my budget. I then thought of what qualities I wanted in the products I would be using. With all of that in mind, I read all of the reviews that I could and found products that had all or most of the qualities that I was looking for. That process lead me in the right direction 9 out of 10 times and has left me really happy with my current arsenal of tools and products.
