I plan on building or upgrading my computer that died in the next few months. I do some games, but not hardcore. I have been using AMD cpu's for a few years. Most of my stuff now is out of date for it to be used on a new system. So I need suggestions on Mb, cpu, ram, video. I am looking at Athlon x2 4400, a Gigabyte gam61p s3 mb with built in video for now and ddr2 667 ? ram at 1 gig. How does this look? Thanks

If your into gaming, 1gig of ram isn't going to get you by many PC games now a days. Most will require at least two gigs of ram. Built in video isn't going to get you by as well, but you said you do not game to much.

I'd look into a P4 Dou core processor, with atleast two gigs of ram.

I was using a 6200 card with 256mb at agp 8x. I think the mobo is a 6100 at 128mb. I would upgrade that later. What socket is good the intel chips?

I currently built a mini gaming computer in jan. for less than $500. I used a AMD 3800+, Nivida 7600gt, 1gb cosair XMS, Rosewill 500W Power Supply, Western Digital 160GB, Creative Sound card, gigabyte M61PM-S2 mobo.

I used this to play Counter Strike and got 100fps EASILY in smoke constantly. It also ran FEAR pretty well, a little jumpy when a lot action was happening. But I didn't care since I built the thing for less than $500. You can probably build the same computer for a little over $350 now since DX10 and all that good stuff came out this year. i

I just got an ad for the new AMD quad core Phenom cpus. The ad sounded interesting and you might want to look into the 2.2 ghz cpu as a base for your new machine. Somewhere around 250 Canadian for the 2.2 and 294 Can. for the 2.3. Either one may make a quite zippy new machine.
