Hey everyone :wavey



My girlfriend is looking for a newer car.

Since i haven't needed a "newer" vehicle in a while, I'm not sure what would be the best car for the cash. She wants to stay under 14k. Pretty decked out, the usual ammenties. Just a good, reliable car.



Any suggestions for be very helpful. :usa
 
"Pretty decked out" for under $14K, good luck. That being said you are probably gonna fall into the Korean car segment for a car in that price range. Hyundai's reputation seems to be getting better and better (although resale on Korean cars is horrid), so you might want to go that route. Elantra MSRP starts under $14K. If it were me I would do some research on Honda Civics and try to get a good deal on one. Invoice on a new Civic sedan is $13,866 according to KBB.com. I don't know if they are selling for that or not based on all the positive reviews and such. They may be moving enough to not have to bargain.
 
cool thanks. I should clarify that this is not a "new" car she's looking for. 2003 and up.

Oh, well in that case you can get something pretty dang nice. Shop at will! $14K will buy a nice used vehicle as most of the depriciation has been someone elses problem.

To each their own, but buying a used car can be an extremely good deal. It is THE way to go if you are sure of the car's history. I got my truck from a retired guy that drove it around his farm and such. 30K miles when I bought it for far less than he paid retail. Just basically broken in at that mileage, and had probably been driven over 70 mph a handful of times.
 
I agree- buying a few years used is perhaps the best way to go if the car has been kept in top shape. You get a vehicle that has already suffered the majority of the depreciation but can still hope to have it for many years to come!
 
I'm still a fan of the Nissan Sentra.



I've owned two. One '94 that I drove for seven years and it only spent 4 hours in the shop for anything other than regular maintenance, and more recently a 2001 (that had some brake problems but I'm not going to blame Nissan for that), that I just traded in a couple of months ago.



Great car at a great price.
