New Black Paint

So I just painted a truck for a friend and I'm looking to put a product on it to give it a little slickness so he doesn't scratch it up too bad. I've tried to call and sent an email to the guys about Wet Glaze 2.0 but haven't gotten a reply. Does anyone know if this glaze is actually fresh paint safe? I know most glazes are but from what I understand this isn't just a glaze. I would just use some Meguiars New Car Glaze but I can't find it locally anywhere around here. They have #7 but I hate that stuff. He is coming to pick the truck up Saturday. Still got some things to clean up and put together.

Dupont 99k Black Basecoat

Zolatone Euro Clear

Block sanded with 3m Imperial Wet or Dry 1000 wet

3m Trizact 1500 via DA sander wet

3m Trizact 3000 via DA sander wet

3m Rubbing Compound with Meg's wool pad (I first used 3m finishing film 1500 and it left some pigtails so I used this to remove them)

Meg's 105 via Maroon Pad

Meg's 205 via white pad on PC

Hey nice work man! Looks like you can lay down some seriously nice paint. What about 3M Imperial Hand glaze. I think PepBoys carries it.

If not, Ice by Turtle Wax is pretty good for this sort of need.

Not dimethal silicones, etc, don't be off set because of previous conceptions.

Nice work! Looks super flat and deep. There are several products that are fresh paint safe as a matter of fact. I'm actually working on an article that will hopefully show this. In the meantime, this is one of the only products I know of that actually markets itself for fresh paint:

Fast Wax

Hmmm..maybe this means our days of :argue over the care of fresh paint are coming to an end  [J/K folks, David and I get along fine]

Thanks for posting that link, sounds interesting. Might even order some.

xtremekustomz- Hey, that's good looking work there!

I'm guessing you need to find something locally, like...right now. Otherwise, order that Fast Wax or some OCW.

Since you can't find my beloved M05, and I agree about the M07, see if you can find that Fast Wax. Lots of autobody/paint supply places handle Presta. Ditto for the 3M IHG, and at least that's a little better than the M07.

Meguiar's Deep Crystal Step #2 Polish is another option, not as bad as M07, not as good as M05.

Gee, hope its owner doesn't mar it up right away first time he washes it :nervous:

Yeah I kinda need something locally. He is coming to pick it up this weekend. This paint is still soft as in marring easily. I'm still not sold on M105 and M205. I had to use my 3m compound to get rid of the 1500 grit scratches on a wool pad. The M105 did it but after the oils evaporated they were back. I used it to refine the swirls made by the 3m (which doesn't swirl when used on foam). As for the M205...I do like how it removes fairly easy but it still seems to leave a residue behind. It all looks pretty darn good in the sun. As good as I can get it until the paint hardens up a bit. I've instructed the owner on how he needs to wash it. He will probably end up ordering some of that paint safe wax. I sent him the link.

I'd just throw some OCW on it, personally. It's fresh paint safe despite the name.

Same here, used it on my first Maxima after the side my brother backed into was repainted. Meguiars #80 Speed Glaze is new paint safe and offers a little bit of protection.

Yeah, soft new paint can be a huge PIA, and the oils in M205 can drive me nuts even worse than M105.

I really like that stuff, but I harldy ever recommend it any more since its tiny bit of cut has been a little too much for some fresh repaints...like the initial cut scoured the paint and it broke down too fast to correct that. I still use it on fresh Spies Hecker and sometimes Glasurit, but I've learned I need to watch it with that stuff. Gee, who woulda thunk it?!? I mean, it seems so gentle :nixweiss

Didn't end up putting anything on it. He got here and brought some new tail lights and turn signals. I got him to order some OCW and some ONR. Here were the finished pics of the tailgate and hood. He was really excited when he picked it up. I painted the plastic fender flares, some vent pieces on the wiper cowl and the wiper arms. Couldn't let them be all dull and stained with wax residue on them. Think I'm gonna order some Menzerna PO85RD for my final polish. I still have some of their Final Polish II from a few years back and loved that stuff. Also gonna get some OCW. How does it compare to Duragloss Aquawax?
