Never used clay before...need help...

I was putting on my Klasse AIO and SG for the first time on my new car (only 2 mos. old) and I noticed some very very tiny hard black specks on the surface of my paint. You can only see them when you are about 1" - 2" from the surface. They don't come off with washing or waxing, but if you run your fingernail over them softly, they come off. I went ahead and finished with the Klasse since I was already 75% into it and figured I would do some reading. Well, after reading I think I have discovered that these are probably a result of transporting via train during shipment. I also read that the way to remove this safely is with a clay bar or polymer bar substitute. Here are the questions I have:

1. Is there a difference in clay bars and polymer bars? Which is better and why?

2. Do I need to remove or strip my Klasse and other waxes in order to use one of these bars or can I use it right over it?

3. Can you use the caly bar too much? Will it harm my clear coat over time? (I have heard from some people that they are abrasive and other people say that they are not)

4. There are VERY few of these on my car, should I use the clay bar now, or wait until the spring? Will they damage my car if they stay on their through the winter?

Any other opinions or usage tips are GREATLY appreciated.

If you have the time, do it now. I would clay the whole car, but spend most of your time on these areas that contain the black spots. You can clay right over the klasse, and the clay should pull the contaminants through the polish. When you are done, apply a coat of KLASSE to assure protection and even coverage.

I would only clay 1-2 times a year. You will find that after the car is clean and waxed, the dirt will come off easy with a quality car wash.

As for clays, I would recommend mothers, zaino, or clay magic. Stay away from meguires.......

For lube, use quick detailer, or car wash in a spray bottle.

Hope this helps.

1. A clay bar is appropriate for use on your car. Good clay bars ones are made by 3M, Mothers or Pinnacle.

2. Try using the clay bar over the Klasse (it should work). Just add another layer of Klasse once the spots are removed.

3. Clays bar are mildly abrasive. Use when needed you should not have a problem.

4. It really depends on what the spots are. If you want to be safe remove them now.

Look through the archives about iron particles in your paint. Ron Ketchum, our resident guru, had a very good explanation on how and why that happens, and tells what you need to do to remove or neutralize the metal on your finish.
If you can't find the thread, go to www.autoint.com, and look up the info. They have an ABC system to remove and neutralize the iron dust.
Do some research and you won't be sorry. Good luck, and let us know how you make out. Enjoy!
