neglected black paint

I've used zaino on my black cobra and it looks great so I want to try to clean my truck. In haven't done anything to it in a few years and it is very oxidized. I bought a 7336 with the v-pad kit and some 3m finesse II and follow with z5 and z2. Does that sound like a good start? What pad should I use also. Thanks

Depending on the oxidation I really don't think the finesse II is going to "cut" it. I'd go for a little bit more abrasive cleaner like Meguilars Fine Cut or even Swirl Mark Remover. If you want to stick with 3M, they also have a good swirl mark remover.

I'd do the following:

Dawn wash

Clay bar

Meguilars Fine Cut Cleaner or even Swirl Mark Remover

3M Finesse II

Rejex

Maybe I'll try it since I already have it shipped and I can get something more abbrasive if it doesn't work. Which pad should I use? And I am going to do the dawn wash and clay. Thanks

I prefer 100% wool curve up cutting pads, the pad does more cutting than the product that lubricates it and it will do more in the way of helping to remove deep scratches. First and foremost, wash, clay bar, then try wiping down the body with a low grade solvent, I prefer quik-solv, wipe away excess with a microfiber towel. Before you even try cutting it, see if a small part of the fender will clean up either by hand, or buff it with a polishing pad and some of the perfect-it you say you already have. It might clean up alot better than you think.

I washed w/dawn and buffed w/ finesse II on the orange pad and went back over w/ z5 and looks real good. Roof and hood could use a little more buffing to get out some waterspots but other than that it came out great. Looks like a new truck. Still need to go over w/z2.

Finesse it II is more abrasive than 3M Swirl Mark remover.

I would give the Finesse it II a try with a polishing pad. If that does not cut it move up to FI II with a cutting pad.

If you are working with a PC Megs Fine Cut is not advised. It's a rotary only product.
