My polishing plan will be 3M FI II machine polish followed by 3M SMR for dark cars. I will be using my PC. Which pads, I have CMA's, should I use for each of these polishes? Also how long should I spend on a panel? Is it possible I may need to go over an area a few times before I can get them out? I will be using the sunlight to track them down and get them out. Or maybe lamps at night. Should I just go over it until I get the surface swirl free? Is it ok to do this? Do I need to worry about breaking through the clear? Its a civic as well. Thanks for any help.

It's always been advised to try least aggressive product and pad first. Then change either the product or the pad to the next aggressive level to remove the defect. I would start with the white CMA pad. Think of a 2x2 feet sqare. Now lets visualize this on the face of your monitor. Starting from the upper left work your way down then back up overlapping the first pass, up and down overlapping across the face of the monitor. You'll end up finally at the upper right. Then your next pass should be across the screen to the upper left then back to right overlapping each pass till you end up at the lower right. Now do diagonal passes and you'll end up at the upper left. After your passes, make your inspection of the panel with a 50/50 mix of alcohol/water to determine if you need a more aggressive approach.

hey, thanks Nick, I didn't have the link close at hand... I knew I should have just posted it instead of trying to put it in words. You know the old cliche "a picture is worth a thousand words."

Read it, informative, thanks. I would like some more info on what I may be in for. Are there such things as swirls that are "in" the paint that cant be buffed out?
