need some suggestions b4 i hit checkout...

I'mnot new to detailing but I am new to PC's and microfibers. I have been using Zaino on my Grand National with cotton towels, washing with a sponge, drying with a chamois/towel combo. I am unhappy with my finish to say the least.

I have mad swirl marks and want to remove them and use the right supplies to prevent them from coming back.

With that in mind I did some searching and came up with these basic items I will need. I ALREADY have a PC 7336 (i work at a woodshop ;) ) so I just need the accessories.

Have I got everything I need, do I have things I don't need, can u suggest using something different? Any insight would be great.

Also, the PC backin pad...my PC has a velcro backing pad with the holes in it. Can I use that or do I need to order the one from CMA?

Below is pictured 2 screenshots of my shopping carts. Autopia store on the top and CMA is next

Thanks alot, Steve

Steve,

You'll love the Autopia towels. They are IMO the softest towelling I've used so far. Your backing plate should work fine, I'm assuming it is a 5" or 6" Porter-Cable one, if it is bigger than that you may want to order one that is one of those two sizes.

Do you have compound/cleaner/polishes that you are already using? If you are looking to try something new, I'd recommend the einszett (1Z) Paint Polish. Their polishes are some of the easiest and best working products I've used.

Good luck and enjoy! :xyxthumbs

I'm not a Zaino guy, but just being here, I've picked up a possible fact that Z is no good at removing swirls. The pad selection looks decent (I like the orange pads, too) but if you have nothing else for swirl removal, I'd throw some sort of polish on there.

If you already have a velcro backing plate, as long as it's the same size as the pads you are getting, you don't need another one. Velcro is velcro.

Enjoy your free shipping. I'm trying to keep my credit card in my wallet just thinking about saving 7 or 8 bones.

I would dump the lamb and pick up a grey finishing pad.

I would probably add a large WW drying towel or 2. You'll love those.

There are so many other things that may help but you've made a decent start.

What's your bugdetary limit :D

edit... I forgot to mention, I have Zaino products Z1, Z2, Z5, Z6, Z7 , and ZFX but i dont know how to use that

Will these be sufficient or will I need something additional?

also, if anyone knows where I can get some claybars chep that'd be great too, only place i can find them is in the Megiurs kit w/ the spray and I only need the bars.

Wow, response time here is incredible, love this site....:xyxthumbs

One of the PC article I read ( http://bimmer.roadfly.org/bmw/forums/detailing/forum.php?postid=1430487&page=1) recommended not using the grey pad b/c he polishes by hand, I was really only gonna use the PC for swirl removal. Is it better to use it for applying the Zaino too? Also, I got the lambswool b.c my swirls are pretty bad and I wanted to make sure I had enough to get them out...should I ditch that and just use only the Yellows?

I think I have one of them drying towels in my wash and dry trio...unless that something else...where do I get it...autopia or CMA.

My budget is a small one (college student) but my paint is very important to me so I dont want to spare any expenses on it. I'm open to any recommendations

also, What swirl remover is prefered?

With a pc, I would steer clear of the wool. Get a cutting pad or two and some polishing pads. I love the white finishing pads from CMA.

For polishes, look at the Menzerna twins for swirl removal and user-friendly natures.

I like Mother's clay the best--if I'm not mistaken, you can contact them directly and order them in threes.

ClayMagic clay bar kit at Autozone or Walmart, $10, is a very choice if you are on a budget. As for swirl removal, you can try Meg's #9 Swirl Mark Remover 2.0 or like I mentioned in my first post einszett's Paint Polish (can be bought at the Autopia store).

CLaymagic at autozone or pepboys or walmart. 10 bucks. Works well and comes with a Lube not a QD.

Good Luck!!!:D

Thanks for the tips guys...as for the pads, they are 7.5" and from what I gathered I should stick to the 6" (Actually 6.5")

And I'll try the meguirs DACP, and SMR 2.0 and look into the other products mentioned....

On a positive note I have a beater cutlass that is black and in BAD shape that I can pratice on, I'm anxious to see what kind of results I get. Maybe I should order more than 2 of each pad:eek:

In my opinion, the 7.5" pads are easier to work with assuming you're using 6-inch backing plate. I find that the 6" pads barely cover the 6" backing plate, leaving a very small "buffer zone."

1Z Paint Polish 1 10.95

Wash N Dry Trio 1 29.95

Khaki Microfiber Buffing Towel, Pkg/6 1 15.95

Blue Perl Microfiber Applicators 2 3.60

Concours Buffing Towel 1 12.95

Subtotal 77.00

And I got 2 yellow, 2 white, and 1 grey 6.5" pads from CMA.

How'd I do?

Personally I've found lambswool pads to be a very important pad in my arsenal. I had what I thought were hopeless situations turn out much better than I could've imagined using lambswool.

I have a PC 7336

I was going to get the lambswool pad but everyone said no, said they were too aggressive. My paint is 20 years old and probably easy to burn through so I voted against it. We'll see how it turns out.
