a black lexus. It has swirl marks prety bad. I just got a makita but not to sure I want to start out using it on the lexus. I have a PC also. I have the white pads, orange pad, and yellow pads. If I use the makita what should I put the setting on? 2.5 (equates to 1200rpm)

I have the following products to use...

OP and OC
PB 1,2,2.5, PP, PwC, Blue Carnuba
DACP
4* UPP
Collinite IW
Souveran paste
S100
NXT liquid
AIO/SG

I have the lexol cleaner and condition for the interior
B&B for the tires...

I don't have any pics right now, but the swirls aren't just your average swirls...

Suggestions appreciated...

Thanks,

Brian

With black, I take a deep breath and a good afternoon.

Starting with a low abrasive polish, like SSR1 and a medium pad, I work a side panel and check it in th esun. If it does the job, fantabulous. If not, I increase the polish abrasive level. If that doesn't work, I increase the pad abrasiveness, and so on.

When you find the pad and product that works (say 2.5+medium-heavy cut pad), do the whole car, cleaning the pad regularly. When you finish that step, move to a lighter abrasiveness, and a lighter pad. Then again with a finishing pad and finishing polish.

If the pad is kept clean, the work is steady and slow, and your process complete, you should work out the swirls and avoid holograms. Then the fun stuff--your sealant and waxes. My favourite part.

Perhaps others can correct me.

I woudlnt reccomedn using a rotary for the first time on a lexus.. it coudl be trouble. I woudl go with teh pb 2.5 and 1 combo. I have worked on lexus paint and its was pretty hard IMHO. If you go with the rotary use op with light cut pad @1200 rpm.

if you use the makita ...I would use SSR2.5 with the white polishing pad at a speed of about 4 ...be sure to work the product well and probably 2-3 passes will be needed if the swirls are pretty bad. then follow with either SSR1 or AIO on a finishing pad at a speed of 2.5-3 ...then pick a LSP and use the PC at a speed of 2-3 ...

can PB SSR1 be used as a finishing polish? or do i need to get a specific polish not a swirl remover?

yes it gives a great glow to any color with the finishing pad:)

Greg,

What would you consider light cut...the white pad? orange pad would be medium and yellow heavy?

Thanks..

Steve, isn't 4 on the makita around 1800rpm's....most people i see never go over 1500...did you mean 4 or 3?

Thanks
