Okay...I haven't posted here in 3 years because....i haven't washed my truck in that long.:shocked (seriously) I plan to spend some time this weekend and give it the works...or so i think. I was just looking for the nesseary steps I would need to take and products to use.

as you can see i didn't get very far. I need to wax (my car) and get rid of scratches, swirl marks and a little yellow paint from getting to friendly with a pole.

Any help would be greatly appricated.

:woot:

I don't have one as of today. I plan on buying one by this weekend. Last time I was here the PC was what everyone was talking about. What do you suggest?

No, it's not the wrong place. Welcome back to the fold! Perhaps other members are just shunning you for your sin of not washing for so long. Since it's been so long, and you're looking for a basic list, click on the How To picture/link at the top of the page and go to the detailing guide, that will run you through the steps.

As far as machines, there is a new PC that came out literally yesterday (at least at Autogeek), the Meguiar's G110, the new Griot's polisher that just came out--those are all in the same ballpark price-wise, and then there is the Flex 3401 which is a forced-rotation DA; think of it as a cross between a rotary and a DA. The downside of the Flex is that you don't have as many backing plate (and therefore pad) options, and it's significantly more expensive.

Okay...now we are getting some where....i read through most of the articles on detailing. Seems like some of the pics are missing but no big deal. Here is what I got now:

Get rid of bugs

Wash

Clay bar

Wash again

----------------get's kinda fuzzy from here but i know in the past i mostly used Meguiar stuff

Swirl Remover (i think i used #9 in the past)

then i used #7

then i used #26

What do you recommend or should I correct/change from here? I'm still not very familiar with the different products out there.

Thanks for the help.

It's all about the time and effort and expensive you're willing to commit.

I did my sister's 94 Civic (white) recently. Had not been washed, polished and waxed/sealed in at least 8 years, maybe longer. Surface was dull, chalky as you would imagine for a car that is outside 24/7, has never been garaged. Washed it; hand polished with Turtle Wax Polishing Compound; AIO'd with NuFinish (she had it on hand, seemed appropriate for the job, a second light polishing), topped that with Danase Wet Glaze (will add FK1000P before fall). Took about 90 minutes, a lot to remove during the polishing phase, slow passes. Looks decent. Not as good as it would have been with two passes of machine polishing and more LSP, but that's what we could get done in the time we had.

Heres what I used to do before I got my G110 :

Wash

Clay

Megs #7

Megs NXT 2.0 (which probably removed most of the 7 lol)

Now I do this:

Wash

Clay

Megs 105 or PB SSR 2.5

Megs 205 or PB SSR 1

Vanilla Moose

EX-P

Nattys Blue, XMT 180, or Dodo Supernatural

or Z2

Thats a lot more work but the results are way better.

Silicon Toad- I'd try to keep it as simple as possible.

Wash

Clay

Polish with M105 or Meguiar's Ultimate Compound

Polish with M205 or Scratch-X v2.0 or Swirl-X

Wax (I'd probably just use Collinite)

That'll look great.

If you really want to use something like #7 and top with #26, or maybe NXT or something like that, substitute that/those for the Collinite.
