My name is Josh and I have been looking at detail city for sometime. I have a few questions and am looking for some help. I have a 1999 convertible dark green mustang. I have tried every product on the shelf at car stores and nothing seems to work for my dark color car. What I have noticed is small swirls all over that you can only see under fine light. Also a few scratches. What do I need to buy and where can I get it. I have about 300 dollars to spend. Also, in what order do i use these product. Please Help!!!

First off the search tool is going to be your freind! but we can be your freinds too!

Search:

PC - aka portercable random orbit buffer 7427

you will need some foam pads and a backing plate for the buffer. Sponsers sell kits with the pads and backign plates, dont forget the 10% off discount!

I reccomend poorboys for any products as they are nicely priced and very user freindly, another nice alternative is optimum polishing, again a search of optimum polish and compound will bring up a plethora of info.

So you will need to:

Wash
Clay
Polish to remove swirls/scratches
Final Polish
Glaze (optional.. i dont do it)
Sealant and or Wax

Take Care

Greg

Check out this thread. It has a list that comes out to around $300 bucks and will definitely get the job done. Just remember that products only get you halfway there. The way you use those products is what makes the car look good. Make sure you do plenty of research on your technique before you dive in. Post any of your questions that you can't find answers to as well. We all love to help. :)

You just walked into Jngrbrdman's trap saying you had about $300. I thought of his thread, and there it was.
Getting swirls out of a dark car takes a lot of time. Be sure you are committed to it.

I have been apllying products by hand. I am going to try to get some up close pics of my car so you guys can see what I am talking about. My car looks good from alot of peoples standpoint, but I can tell there are some swirls and light scratches on the surface. Unfornunately my parents and then sister had this car before myself. And they think the automatic car wash is the answer to cleaning your car. ANyways, thanks for the tips. I will try to get pics up soon. Greg Cavi, to bad you don't live in OHIo or otherwise I would pay you to come down here and do it for me. You do a awesome job!!Thanks guys
