Need Merenza Advise

Royal Velvet's are O.K. There are better towels out there, but it all depends on how much $$$ you are willing to spend.

31st330i:

Macy has good stuff like Charisma and Ralph Lauren(Polo) towel but they are very expensive.

Royal Velvet on sale for $9.99 IMHO is not worth it as you can usually get it cheaper at places like Ross/TJMax.

Their Charisma on sale for $19.99 is just too expensive.

I recommend:

1. Mervyn (in Newpark mall on Mowry) has Fieldcrest-Luxury Suite brand towel which feels the same as the Charisma. Regular price is $9.99 often onsale for $7.99. 100% Supima.

2. Check out Ross if you have extra time. You should see some good brand like Fieldcrest/Wamsutta if you are lucky.

3. Walmart has the Springmaid brand towel ($4.99) which I also use and is also good quality. It is thick and heavy and I like it better than Royal Velvet. FYI Springmaid and Wamsutta are both from the same company.

I would say any towel would be fine as long as:

- 100% cotton made in USA

- Feels soft (use Fieldcrest Charisma as a benchmark)

- loops length is not too short

Washing with the mitts is what causes most of the damage IMHO.

found the Fieldcrest-Luxury Suite hand towels on sale for 40% off at mervyns. ross didn't have much of a selection.

Menzerna PO91E has a cut of 3.3 out of 5 - gloss of 3 out of 5
Menzerna P0203S has a cut of 3.5 out of 5 - gloss of 3.8 out of 5
Menzerna PO83 has a cut of 3.8 out of 5 - gloss of 3.2 out of 5
Menzerna POS34A has a cut of 4.5 out of 5 - gloss of 1.5 out of 5

If this is harder GM clearcoat, the 105 with the right pad should get out your imperfections. The 105 is finicky to start with, but if you keep on it and mist it with a little water so it doesnt dry out, it seems to recover and work. It may also be too heavy cutting for your slight imperfections anyway.
The 205 is so much the opposite in how it works, you would never know that the 2 are related ! :)

As you can see the Menzerna line in the 2 you were asking about are not exactly heavy cutting compounds; are you using a Rotary or Random Orbital ?

I depends on what year Corvette you're working on.

C1's thru C3's have most likely been repainted, so do a test panel.

Early C4's have very workable, easy to polish paint and M205 should be more than adequate.

Late C4's, C5's and C6's have that rock-hard "diamond clearcoat". It is a true pain in the ........ to work with!

My best experience has been with M105/M205 and a rotary. With a Random Orbit, even a powerful one, like Griots, it can take 12 hours to polish a late model Vette.

I resisted rotary polishers for a long time, but with newer Vettes it's almost a necessity.

It is a 91 Vette. I have both a pc and a older Black & Decker single speed rotary. I would prefer to use the pc as to not get a burn thru.
Dan and Luster I appreciate your advise
