Welcome to DC!
It sounds like it may be a rotary and I can't comment on the DeWalt being good or bad.
One thing I can say, the rotary is a serious tool for someone new to detailing. I'm not sure from your post if you are new to detailing or just to the business side of detailing.

I believe Beemerboy has the Dewalt buffer. I think it is just as good as a PC orbital just the backing plates aren't as common... but you should contact him for more information.

If you are talking about a orbital...I have been using one for the last 4 years with no problems at all......I have a 5.5 inch backing plate on mine.

If you are talking about a rotary my neighbor has one that I've used and its a great machine

Oh and welcome to the site

You can't go wrong with a dewalt. I've had several and the dewalt is my fav. I've had mine for about 4 years now and have had no problems with it.

You might want to read up on buffing though if this is your first time doing paint correction. Its not rocket science but you need to know the basics.

I have two DeWalt machines, both rotaries. Excellent to work with, good for removing scratches, lots of power, good for burning through paint.
Don't lean in--allow the weight of the machine to do the job. Take your time, go slow, use enough product, practice for hours.
Keep the machine clean, blowing dust out. And keep the brushes in good condition.
