Need help with red paint.

this car is 13 years old and has never been detailed.
I washed it, used AIO cleaner 2-ice, SG and 2 layers of Zaino.
Car looks okay, but not nearly what i want.

Can i use Wolfgang, P21s or Pinnacle on top of it to get depth and protection?
Or shall i strip Zaino and use one of the above polish to get deeper shine?

Or can i just apply on top of Zaino?

TIA.

With the process that you have done you haven't corrected any flaws in the paint. These may make the paint seem dull or fine scratched, which will hurt the finish in the end. Some kind of polish before the steps you have mention will probably make the best results from what you have described. I'm not sure how durable Zaino is, but AIO does an awesome job at cleaning the paint, but does not help paint flaws. SG should last a while also. So if you can get your hands on a PC and some good polish you'll be amazed by the results!

Actually, I was just thinking and with a 13 year old paint, you may have a single stage paint. I have seen people on here do some amazing stuff with AIO on single stage. If it is single stage, someone else will have to chime in and give you some ideas. Good luck.

I agree with budman3!

As good a product as AIO is, it is not a polish. With Zaino, or "any" synthetic (sealant), or natural wax, you want to get the paint clean, and polished as best you can. Synthetic waxes like Zaino, Klasse, UPP, EX-P, and others are very clear. You will see just about any defects on the paint if they are not removed.

You can certainly top and sealant with any carnauba product you want. However, you may be compromising the durability of the sealant by applying a product over it. At the very least, if you want to continue layering the sealant after topping with carnauba, you will need to strip everything, and start over with the sealant...................... if durability is your goal.

As for durability, to-date, Zaino and Klasse are still the most durable products I've used. Others may disagree.

Hope this helps.

I was going to buy AIO or Zaino as a sealant, but I heard that it's not that great on dark cars including red. Since I have a red Subaru and a grey Audi, I wanted the liquid look of Carnauba, but the long-lasting protection of a synthetic. I tried Menzerna FMJ. It's pricey, but it produces a great look (IMO) - nice deep shine, but not harsh and "brassy".

And yes, it does show paint defects. You have to prep well. I prepped with Menzerna IP, FP II, and Glaze that I got in a Menzerna kit from CMA. I'm still learning, so my opinion about prep products will probably change, but I do like the look of FMJ.

I'm not sure how long FMJ will last. Time will tell.

Dan.

What you are looking for is clarity. With out it you will never have the finish you want. For Example your bathroom mirror never gets cleaned. Then one day you decide to clean and polish it. You cant belive it. Every thing is crystal clear and now you understand why all the chicks stare and point. :lmfao
My point is if you don't take care of the reflective qualitys of your paint it will never have the desired finish. The more dirt and fine scratches you remove the more reflective your finish.
A car this old may require more than a PC. It might need a rotary to start it in the right direction.
Good luck. Post some pics. when finished.

yeah, i have done a lot of cleansing and it is actually looking really good.
But the rain is def. not helping out my detail.
The car is super long to be fitting in the garage.
It's a suburban with long wheelbase.
However, the results have been great thanks to AIO and my gf's help on the car.

Thanks guys.

wooo hoooo.
this is what i want for all my details to end.
Quoted customer 485$ for the job.
When he came to pick up he was so happy he dropped 600$. That nice for an exterior detail only. :-)

loving it...
