Need help with aquapel

Hey guys, I want to get my glass detailed. Here is the plan, clay, Z12 glass polish, and top it off with aquapel. I have a few questions though.

1) What pad should i use with the Z12, the one that comes with the PC, or a white pad?

2) Where can I get aquapel at a good price?

3) How well does aqualpel bead and work with wipers.

Thanks everyone!

Al,

You can order aquapel from http://www.speedymetalpolish.com/products.html

As for the beading (this isn't the best, but you can see the water trails):

It beads very well and rolls right off when the water gets to heavy. I have no wiper chatter, and it has been very durable.

Yep, that website has it.:xyxthumbs

Or you can go to Big Lots and get an STP Visionblade(it's really Aquapel!!;) )....

It beads very well, tighter beads than Rain-X, and it's lasted me 4 months so far(yes, on the windshield in the wiper paths too!)...

Absolutely no wiper chatter or anything!

:wavey

Where can I get Vision Blade besides Big Lots? They dont have those in my city. We have Walmart, K Mart, and Target.

Visionblade was discontinued quite awhile back. Biglots has the extras. You have to be careful when going that route because the treatment may not be as effective and many of the applicators at Biglots have broken vials.

i just found out they sell visionblade at the parts dept at work! Should i buy it, or order aquapel.

Also, i want to do 2 windshields, how should i prep them, and do they have to be done at the same time or car i do an application days apart.

I have a bunch of Visionblades! :D I got them super cheap on clearance, but they're the old "bar" style applicator. I was warned that old stock like this may have suffered some evaporation, but they all sound good and only have a small air bubble inside when I hold it up to the light... I'll know when I go to use one (for the first time) on a couple vehicles soon. I figure they should work fine. As said, when buying be SURE you hear sloshing liquid (and not tinkling glass) and the felt applicating surface isn't discolored.

I don't know if these old Visionblades have more liquid inside than the smaller, newer ones with the tabs, but my instructions say it is good for 1 sedan if you do ALL the windows, and 2 sedans if you do only the windsheild and front side windows. Since Rain-X should be good enough for the side and rear windows, I'm beginning to wonder if one of these babies would be good for 3 front windsheilds alone....? :)

In application, you MUST do everything you intend to do all at once, because air cures this stuff and once you pop the glass, that's it. For prep, I don't know if I'd use a glass polish and follow that right up with Aquapel. I don't know about Z12, but my AG glass polish leaves the glass slick-feeling, implying it leaves a coating of something. The instructions say to use a "regular glass cleaner", but I'm probably going to buy some lighter fluid (naphtha), as per Ron K's advice, and strip anything off, like any residual Rain-eccch!

Also, from all previous old posts on this topic I understand that Aquapel and Visionblade ARE the same product. My Visionblades have the PPG logo on the top of the box. I would just buy which ever is the best deal :xyxthumbs

If your Visionblade has the wings applicator, go for it. The old style applicator is big. The new ones have two wings that you squeeze together and they are only 5" or so long.

Once activated, the aquapel goes FAST. I prefer to do the windshield only, because coverage all around really stretches the amount of product you have to work with. Doing just the windshield, I like to go for three coats.

I agree with 4DSC, I would use either alcohol or naphtha to clean the windshield after polishing. Unlike Rain-X, Aquapel does bond to the glass.

I am just afraid if my glass has some type of coating. The water does bead off the windows, but it has been beading slower lately (after using P21S washer boost). Is it ok if the glass has a "coating"? I think i will skip the polish.

That's a good point about the coating... anyone know if those are inside or outside, or sandwiched inside the glass? :nixweiss

I was at a store today and looked at one of the "new" Visionblades that say "1 Shot" on them, and they say in big letters, "Good for One Windsheild"! The instructions on the back also sounded like it's only good for one front windsheild (with a re-coat). My big old Visionblade's instructions also provide for re-coating, so it must have quite a bit more in it!

Ali,

You can continue to use 20/20 after Aquapel application. Any glass cleaner will work just fine, just don't use any abrasives or it will remove the coating. Other than that, just treat it like a normal window.

After polishing the windshield I suggest cleaning the window with some NAPTHA (lighter fluid)...this will ensure all waxes and polymers are removed so you get good bonding.....

I found some 3M wax,tar remover in blue spray can....main ingredient is NAPTHA......Let is dwell and then wipe up....I then followed with a damp MF......Also make sure you have no lint on the glass before beginning......

It looks like when you wipe up the aquapel with the paper towel it is not coming off then all of a sudden it disappears.......

There are a few threads about aquapel...and some have good tips ...

Good Luck

To clean your windshield/windows I've used Bon Ami or even 3M Perfect-It Swirl Mark Remover. It really gets them clean.

An interesting tip for "normal" cleaning, however in this case they might both leave undesirable residues. For Aquapel application I'd clean with something strong and relatively pure, like alcohol or naphtha.
