Ive done so much reading on this crap its not funny. People talk like its the miricle product, so i got me some. I just wanted to remove some swirls but Im having some troubles getting them all out. Can anyone give me some tips and tricks to this stuff. I posted this on MOL also but want your alls' opinion.

Just go over some things like speed of the DA, what the #80 looks like when it breaks down(ive heard it turns clear?), and how much pressure you all use. Any movies or short clips would be nice. I cannot afford Mikes DVD or I would get it. :doh

Thanks guys.

Some pics of the swirls..

what kind of paint are you dealing with here? also, you need to work in the product with a slow arm movement and a good amount of pressure (to determine a good amount of pressure, find the middle ground between pressing too hard where the machine almost bogs down to letting it go freely with hardly no pressure at all). while you're buffing, you can check by swiping the area with your finger and feeling/seeing if there is any product left behind you. sometimes multiple passes are needed and if #80 doesn't work, try #83

lol most ppl one MOL are also here :D

slow arm speed

about 15 pound of pressure(try it on a bathroom scale)

overlapp each pass by 50 percent

work the product in really well!

go to autogeek.net/po.html and you can those watch the videos for free, theres another one but i lost the URL.

one of the autogeek videos shows what a broken down polish looks like. Good luck and remember to clean you pad often

oh ya, i would never post this on MOL but give speed 6 a try.

Blue- Since you got some responses here and im sure you will get some more response on Mol hopefully Mike P will chim in over there, but just remember shrink your work size down for ex a 2by2 shrink it to 1by1 (example) also Slow your arm speed down plus apply just engough pressure that it doesnt bog/ just jiggle also work the product in Real good and sometime you may have to make another pass or step up to #83 again i am not suggesting that just stating the 80 might not cut it cause some paint is harder to polish out then other.... just thow on your ipod and "take your time polishing"

here is a good site from blkyukon thanks Charles Website

Add this link to your favorites and dont forget to visit his sponsor and donate whatever you can whenever you can so his site can continue to be free for all of us....

enjoy and good luck!!!!

let us know how it turned out with some sun shot pic

Good advice.

If the 80's not cutting it, try some 83. I've recently been trying 80, 82 and 83 and have found 83 to be a great polish. I'm currently grabbing it over SSR 2.5 which I had been using for many months.

^^ Are you noticing the 83 to have a better cut than the SSR 2.5? I've been using SSR 2.5 followed 80 and it seems like 2.5 on the same type of pad, doesn't cut much better than 80. If I step up to a more aggressive pad I get better results, but 2.5 should be noticably more aggressive than 80, even on the same type of pad (at least I thought it would). I would get 83, I'm just a little thrown off by the difficult of use I hear so often.

Thanks so much guys! Since Im new at this, Im just afriad Im going to ruin my paint by going over it to many times. Ive went over one spot twice with #80 on speed 4, and once with #83 on 4.5. Ill up the speed to 5 and see what happens on a different section. I was working in the garage last night and its hard to tell if the swirls are still there or not. Ill pull it out into the sun and work today.(The earth tilt is changing so the sun isnt very strong at all, no worries with heat)

Ohh, its an 04 jeep libby. The paint seems to be very hard.. Ive heard it would be.

I'd suggest an orange pad for swirl removal. The softer polishing pads like Megs Yellow require to much work to remove swirls.

Edit: I only got one response on MOL! :nixweiss

I'm not sure when you posted your question, but on Saturday's I teach a class that keeps me busy from 3:30 in the morning till about 5:00 or 6:00pm and then I drive 100 miles home in usually bad traffic. No big deal, but I hope that explains why you won't find me super active as far as replying to questions on the forum.

On Sunday, I try to take most of the day off even though I know we have lots of people actively posting questions on the forum. Most people that know me know I trend towards the work-aholic side but it's not healthy to work 7 days a week no matter how much you love your job.

I'll take a look for your post and do my best to answer it.

Just to note, M80 is a great all purpose light to medium duty cleaner/polish, in most cases when it's not working for you it's more about your technique and not the performance of the product. I can't tell you how often I've had guys come to the class who have read about how to us the PC to remove defects and then posted that it's not working when they try it.

Then, with about 3-5 minutes of hand-on training, correcting their technique, all of a sudden it's miraculously working. :heelclick

The main reason I tried 83 was to see if it dusts less than SSR 2.5, and it does.

On the finishes I've used it on, 83 does seem to make quicker work of removing swirls than 2.5. And I haven't had any difficulty in using it. It breaks down nicely and easily wipes off. Perhaps users who have difficulty removing it are using too much or not letting it break down enough???

the megs stuff is so so compared to others as far as removing defects in the same amount of time....meaning for me, optimum OC on a orange pad cuts a lot more faster than 83 on a orange pad, and leaves a better looking finish....just food for thought....

Thanks for the reply. I think I'm going to give 83 a try. I'm very unimpressed with 2.5 and it dusts sooo bad. I'm suprised it doesn't pour out of the bottle as a powder. I have yet to be unimpressed with any Meguiars product I've ever tried, so I'm sure it will be a great product too.

Mike - any chance you could ever take a 5 minute video of someone using the PC incorrectly and then of you correcting them, and then them doing it correctly. Like a 5 minute 3 step video Incorrect, how to use it, example of using it correctly. So many of us live too far away to get hands on help from you that it would be nice to get a little something like that.

Why not check out Mike's How to Use the PC for Showcar Results DVD? You can find it over at ShowCarGarage.com and AutoDetailingSolutions.com. Its a bit longer than 5 minutes (comes in at around two and a half hours), but its very in depth and well worth the money. If you already knew about this, sorry, but I think it might be what you want.

That's right. I remember hearing about that a few days ago and got busy and forgot about it. Thanks for the reminder, I'll check that out right now.

Save up your money and then purchase the video from SCG that Mike and Richard made and you will not be sorry. This is a must for correct techniques using the PC. Al
