What's up guys. I have a 01 dakota R/T with the 17'' aluminum wheels. They are around a year old now. I use Simple green and a scrubbing dish pad( I know I know not the best) Now on the wheels there is grim that is impossible to get off and I want he wheels to look better than new. The wheels are aluminum clear coat. What should I use to clean them, and what is good to protect them with...???

Thanks for any help...............................Clint

If you have any clearcoat left, you can use any of the paint cleaners or swirl removers to clean it up. But you may want to try a proper wheel cleaner, like Eagle One A2Z, first.

If you have a significant amount of brake dust, tar, and grime on the wheels, try something like P21S Gel or Eagle One A2Z. EF Hi-Intensity at full-strength would work well too. Use a sponge, cotton chenille pad, or something to scrub with...almost anything is better than a dish scrubber pad.

Once you get the wheels clean, try applying a coat of Klasse AIO on them. That should help make future grime removal easier.

One tip: Try doing a search for "wheel cleaner". There have been several terrific threads on this subject.

If you used the Simple Green full strength, there's a chance the grime you describe may be the clear coat on the wheels, damaged.

I'd try using a very fine polishing compound to see if the dullness goes away.

I'd suggest a proper wheel cleaner for the future, and a polymer of some sort to protect the finish on the wheels.

Sounds like you may have removed some of the clear coat.

One thing that I don't like about unpainted clear coated aluminium wheels is that scratches show up so easily.
