Need advice on starting up...

I've been exploring the idea of starting a detailing business on the side (mostly on the weekends) and beginning with some interior/exterior, wash, wax and dress jobs. What's the next step that you took? Mobile? Garage? Work from Home? I'm just trying to get a feel of how to approach this business endeavor and what to expect.

Tons of info out on the net for the pros and cons of each venture. And there are tons of pros and cons. a mobil set up is usually cheaper to get into. but your limited on only being able to work in good weather conditions. A garage set up lets you work year round but you have a much higher overhead cost. I guess the very first step is to check out what's already available in your area. If they have pleanty of garage set ups and no mobil detailers then you have a market to corner. etc etc....

excellent advice jakerooni, couldn't have said it better myself. observe the market in your area using that information to help you estimate the amount of potential customers. From there you should be able to see if you will be able to make enough money to handle the high fixed costs of a fixed location or just go mobile then possible move into a fixed location. good luck

Thanks guys, I do appreciate the input. How long did it take you to build up clientele? 6 Months? 1 year? I know this is not going to happen over night or even within a month. Also, how much did you have to invest before you began seeing actual profit? Before I jump into it, I want to know what to expect.
