Need advice on please!!

I am extremely grateful for finding this board the wealth of knowledge seems endless. I'm a total NOOB at this and before Autopia.org I thought a coat of Meguiars after a wash was all that was needed. I've always had light colored cars and now have added a black car to the mix.

The car is a BLACK 05' Mitsubishi Evolution and it has noticable swirl and fine fine scratches in direct sun. I tried the Meguiars 3 step process by hand and the shine/reflection was pretty good, but the swirl etc was virtually unchanged.

I read for 5-7hours on this site and have come up with the following please critique as needed:

I bought a Tropi-care kit yesterday first off and will be using a PC 7336 now any tips on pads besides the ones that come with Tropi-care's kit?

Wash

Mother's claybar

SSR2

SSR1

Natty's blue

Any advice?

What type of committment are you prepared to give to your cars? Short term relationships may be better suited with a Polymer sealant, longer term care would allow a Nuba, or you could use both as previously stated, although not necessary.....Yor products as stated are pretty good!

This car is not a daily driver. It has seen 2000 miles in 4 months. I don't drive it in the rain and only on weekends usually. I can give it quite a bit of time. I just want the paint to look as deep and wet as I can make it without spending a small fortune.

I already ordered the Tropi-care PC special which comes with the PC backing plate 3 pads they are all different, some QD, and MF towels. I also already ordered the SSR2, SSR1, Natty's Blue is there anything else I'm missing besides the claybar? I say Mother's just because I an buy that locally at PepBoys or Autozone.

Advice appreciated :D

Im my opinion, a Polymer may be better suited anyways. Less attention required may be better for the surface in the long run.

Some folks prefer topping Polymers with Nubas, I just dont see any immediate visual difference, but thats me. I pretty much polish to my liking, then seal it, and forget it. A booster application monthly, and/or QD after washes, and Im "maintenance free" till the next season (90 days) arrives. The Mothers clay kit is fine also....You'll like the included "Showtime" detailer, and the California Gold Car wash is great too.

I'd also suggest a sealant before Nattys Blue. It never hurts to have a little more protection on there.

And the reason the Meguiars 3-step process didn't reduce your swirls is because there is no true polish in the Meg's 3-step system. All of the products are non-abrasive.

To get pads for your PC, I'd grab some from http://www.exceldetail.com

Eh, the Evo is a garage queen. I don't think a sealant is necessary (as you can see, sealant vs no sealant changes from person to person). I would go pick up a bottle of clearkote's red moose machine glaze. It gives a very noticeable difference in wetness to dark paints (especially black).

wash/clay/polish/rmg/nb = trying to dry the car constantly

Thanks for the tips and I just ordered some RMG, black, yellow, green pads, and a waffle drying towel. I'll be sure to post before and after pictures.

Just thought of something that you might want to consider...

I would personally go with a sealant considering if your car is going to look that good, you're going to want to take it out of the garage more often and for longer periods of time! :hifive:

It sounds like a garage queen, but it's really do to my 1hr commute each way to work. Usually I just drive on the weekends in stead of letting it sit at work for 9-10Hrs a day.
