Need a Wax or Sealant for a new Black Nissian Ultima

Hello everyone,

I my friend has a brand new Black Nissian Ultima. He needs a wax or sealant. Since his car is black i assume that the wax or sealant should have a lot of depth to it. I am not sure how hard Nissian paint is? Can anyone recommend me a good wax or sealant. Thank you

That depends:

Does the Altima (Ultima) sit outside or is it garaged?

Is your friend a true-Autotopian who will spend the time (and money) it takes to prepare the car for a good wax (IE, like properly washing, claying, and polishing the car BEFORE the wax goes on) or does he want a quick one-step cleaner/wax?

Is the car a daily driver and can he stand a "few" swirls?

Is he looking for more of an ultimate shine and gloss or is protecting the finish more inportant?

ALL these factors weigh in on what wax/sealant anyone in this forum would recommend.

If it's a daily driver and protection is the concern, you cannot go wrong with Collinite 845 Insulator wax (IW845) available from Harbor Freight (sometimes) or many boat supply places may have 885 Fleetwax (same as their 476S detergent-proof auto wax.

If he wants some nice shine, he can try S100 available from most Harley-Davison motorcycle shops. Or he can try Mequire's #26 available at most better auto parts store. it relativeley inexprensive and give a good shine.

If he wants to spend more money and go on-line, he can order ClearKote Carnauba Vanilla Moose wax, PS21 100% Carnauba, Poorboy's Natty Blue, Chemical Guy's 50/50, or as recommended above, Pinnacle's Souveran.

If he wants a sealant that looks good and last along time, he can try the Zaino product line.

It's really up to him on:

1) What 's more important; protection with a longer durability or shine with a shorter durability

2) How much time he willing to spend prepping the car for the wax

3) How much money is he willing to invest in materials.

Bottom line: find a reputable detailing professional or fellow Autopian who can do this for a nominal fee and then just maintain the car himself by properly washing it

(which is a sizeable investment in "PROPER" car washing equipment and supplies).

Yes, it takes all the "fun" out of doing yourself, but Nissan Black (or any black car) is a pain to maintain, as he will find out. Yes, there's NO color (no pun intended) that looks SO good when it's done right, but keeping that way is another "career".

Based on the goodly number of testimonies I have read over the past year and limited personal experience, here are some suggestions for the "best" carnauba waxes and synthetic sealants under $250 (retail):

Carnauba Waxes:

$10-$15: Meguiar's M26 Yellow Tech Wax, Collinite 845, Optimum Car Wax

$15-$20: Natty's Blue, Natty's Red, Clearkote Carnauba Moose Wax, Collinite 476, Harly Wax, S100

$20-$30: Collinite 915

$30-$40: Lusso Oro, P21S

$40-$50: Pinnacle Signature, P21S 100%, Victoria Concours Red

$50-$60: Chemical Guys 50/50, Chemical Guys Pete's '53, Blackfire Midnight Sun, Wet Obsession

$60-$75: Dodo Juices

$75-$100: Pinnacle Souveran

$100-$125: Dodo Juice Supernatural, Zymol Glasur

$125-$150: Swissvax Saphir

$150-$200: Wolfgang Fuzion, Zymol Concours

$200-$250: Swissvax Concorso/Best of Show/Smaragd

$250+: You must have very deep pockets!

Synthetic Sealants:

$10-$15: DuraGloss 105, Mother's FX SynWax, Jeff Werkstatt's Acrylic Jet Trigger, Zaino Z-2 Pro

$15-$20: Meguiar's NXT, Mother's Relections, Finish Kare Hi Temp Synthetic Paste Wax (1000p), 1Z Glanz Wax, Jeff Werkstatt's Acrylic Jet, Poorboy's EX-P, Zaino Z-5 Pro, Ultima Paint Guard Plus (4 oz.)

$20-$30: Blackfire Wet Diamond, Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze, Opti-Seal (8 oz.), Meguiar's M21 Synthetic Sealant

$30-$40: Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant, Menzerna FMJ, Chemical Guys Jet Seal, Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection

$40+: Why is it we are willing to pay so much more for a carnauba wax than a synthetic sealant?

Cleaner Waxes

$5-$10: Meguiar's ColorX, Meguiar's Cleaner Wax, Mother's Carnauba Cleaner Wax

$10-$15: DuraGloss 501, AutoGlym Super Resin Polish

$15-$20: Optimum Poli-Seal, Jeff's Werkstatt Prime

$20-$30: Meguiar's M20 Polymer Sealant, Klasse All-in-One, Zaino Z-AIO, Jeff's Werkstatt Prime (Acrylic, Carnauba, Strong), M66 Quick Detailer Polish (gallon)

$30-$40: Meguiar's D151 Paint Reconditioning Creme (gallon)

The above products can often be found on sale at various websites, sometimes at significant reductions. The comparative pricing is inaccurate in some cases, because specific products come in different sizes: for example, Ultima Paint Guard is listed in the $15-$20 bracket and Opti-Seal is listed in the $20-$30 bracket, but the former is sold in a 4 oz. bottle and the later in an 8 oz. bottle--with both a little product goes a long way. D151 is listed in the $30-$40 bracket, but it is only sold by the gallon (though Auto Detailing Solutions does sell a 32 oz. sampler for $14.95). I have not attempted to "equalize" products by pricing them by the ounce. Also remember that "more expensive" does not always mean "better." Shipping costs must also be taken into consideration.

I personally use P21s 100% which has great gloss an protection, very easy to use also considering it has one of the highest wax content out there. Wolfgang Fuzion Estate is from what i hear even better than the P21s which is why i have one on the way & also considering they provide a free refill it worls out to be not much more than the P21s either..

I have a black Altima and I really like Fuzion but if you dont want to spend that money try Poorboys Blue or Max wax or Blackfire either product.CG 50/50 or Petes 53 are great also.So many great waxes if the car is prepped corectly
