Need a phone with e-mail...Blackjack or iPhone?

YNOT

Poorboys Rules!
Lately I've been considering getting a phone that allows me to access my personal e-mail. I spoke to a guy at the cingular store about a Blackberry, but he recommmended the Blackjack II for me since I'm not using a 'corporate' e-mail set-up. I'd really like an iPhone (since I'm a Mac user) but I've been told by a few people to wait about a year for them to come out with some new 3G technology or something like that...I forget what the thing was.

Basically, I just want something that's easy to use that will allow me to check my 'personal' e-mails during the day and stay in touch with my side business clients without having to use my work computer during the day to check this stuff. It'll also allow me to access my e-mail while out of town too since I don't have a laptop.

So...anyone have a Blackjack II?? Is it easy to use for someone who is more of a 'Mac' guy? Is browsing the web easy to do?

Right now I've got a Motorola Razor and I love it...I just want something new and cool.

:help:

:thanks

No first hand experience, but i think the Blackjack was rated highly by CR (and wasn't too expensive.). The iPhone is (was?) locked into AT&T, so if you don't want to use them, you have to either "unlock" it or go with another phone. I've heard that the quality of the phone part isn't quite up to the looks either.

But again, this is just what I've read. No first hand experience with either.

As an owner of an iPhone I would recommend the Black Jack. Quite honestly the iPhone is the worst Technolgical gadget that I purchased last year. It is fraught with designed limitations. An example is I am unable to use my wireless headphone to use as a stereo headphone or speaker phone for telephone conversations. It only works in mono sound. I cannot use it to listen to movies or audio either. I am forced to use only iPhone products.

The iPhone is slow, expensive, and heats up when used. It shuts off without warning and you will need to start all over again. I use mine everyday but I am locked into a year contract. I am not complaining because I wanted to be on the bleeding edge of technology but if I had to do it all over again I would not purchase the iPhone.

According to my wife the Blackberry or something similar would be better for you given your parameters.

I cannot comment on either, however i do know the blackberry really is a crackberry... im not kiding... be carefull how attcatched and aticted you become to these things.... mmmm blackberry

I have the Audiovox Pocket PC 6700 (Sprint). It has been okay, but I'd like to upgrade soon. I read that the Blackjack was difficult to type messages. Since you have a Mac it seems like the iPhone would be a natural fit.

I have to totally disagree with cwcad's comments. My phone never shuts off unexpectedly, never overheats, works like a charm, and is quite fast. It's email abilities are better than any other smart phone I've seen as well as superior web surfing. I've used the ATT network for years with no complaints at all. Visual Voicemail is terrific.

The iPhone will seek out a WiFi network first then use the ATT Edge network as a fall back. For email and SMS the Edge network is quite quick and I'd say somewhere between dial up and DNS speedwise for browser use. While 3G will be faster it's my understanding that Edge is more reliable at the moment.

Yes, it does have it's limits, such as the bluetooth can't be used for the iPod side but who cares? Eventually it will with software upgrades, in the meantime, headphones work great. And you don't have to use only Apple products, Bose, Shure, and others work fine.

Also think of the savings... it's a phone and iPod all in one. And with web apps like SoonR you can actually access your mac at home.

I highly recommend the iPhone, especially if you're a Mac user.

Look how this site looks on an iPhone!

I have an iPhone myself and I love it. I have my yahoo account set up for the e-mail and I get notifications every 15 minutes if I have a new e-mail. The internet is great for checking things quickly. WiFi is very fast if you are in a WiFI hot spot. The Edge network is great...not fast but also not slow. I write myself notes with the note feature or use the calendar to help remind me of important dates. The only cons I have with it is the battery life and not being able to see certain flash websites. Battery life sucks if you watch videos a lot or use the internet for long periods of time. I have a regular 9-5 job so I don't use my phone all the time, but I do travel by plane once a month to see my girlfriend so I wanted the iPhone so I wouldn't have to take my laptop and my iPod with me for when I'm sitting at the airport. If you want instant e-mail, get a Blackberry. I know many people that have it and love it. I like the iPhone because I can surf the internet for $60 a month. The minutes suck but I don't walk around with my phone stuck to my head. Just my two cents

One other thing about the iPhone, the battery is soldered in, so it isn't meant to be consumer changeable. It costs about $86 to have Apple change it for you. I'm not sure about the Blackjack. The web browsing is supposed to be great with the iPhone, though.
