Need a new miter saw

Long story short, me and the neighbor have more or less shared his miter saw over the years, he`s moving, so I need to buy one now. Got any tips for a decent "bang for the buck" unit? I don`t want a piece of junk, but I have no plans of any fine woodworking either so I don`t need a budget buster. Just a good all around unit for diy stuff around the house. Can`t decide if I want a slider or not. Seems like one of those options I wouldn`t need all the time, but I`m sure it`d be nice to have

I owned a hf Chicago unit. It was ok but I recently upgraded to the ridged dual bevel miter saw.

Love it. Used it to install gearwall slat wall a few weeks ago and the cuts were much more accurate.

If you ha e cash to burn the Bosch, dewalt and Mikita get great reviews.

Check out bigskytools.com for recon deals and new stuff. Sign up for alerts and they come almost daily.

I`ve had a Ryobi 10 inch mitre saw for over 10 years now and it`s worked pretty well. Granted, it is an entry line saw and it isn`t a sliding mitre saw, so there`s that. It was $99 at the time, and I think the updated one is only slightly more expense. If I had the space, I`d get a DeWALT sliding mitre saw with a larger blade. Generally I`ve felt that Ryobi was crap (especially the products I purchased in the past), but maybe the newer lines are of better quality. The updated model is $119 at HD.

If you can swing the 12" sliding double miter it`s a lifetime tool. If you buy anything less eventually you will upgrade. (Like I did). You quickly realize all you can`t do it is harder to do.

Craig`s list is a great place to buy this type of saw. But avoid buying a contractors used equipment that has poor tolerances. Also you must bring some scrap wood to make sure the saw does not have too much slop in it. Used CL buys have no warranty and you need to test before handing over cash. Before you drive over let him know you will be doing a test cut. No test cut no buy.

I have a cheapo Hitachi and its ok, ill be getting a Dewalt in the next few weeks that cuts angles both ways, as my sidekick cut the cord with it! Like how do you not see a cord in there!

That`s what I`m debating. I don`t really wanna spend that kinda coin and it seems like way overkill at the moment, but I also hate buying twice or regretting purchases.

I sold 2 saw on CL and lost my shirt bc they were not what someone would need but when I purchase them I did not think needed a sliding saw. And then I got a single bevel saw and it was a pita to do molding with so I sold that and got the right tool. Just trying to save you the wasted money and meeting idiots at 7-11 selling junk on CL. Never let a bozo from CL come to your house.

Wow. Serious top of the line. Now I`m jelly.

Enjoy it in the best of health. YouTube has great videos on proper set up and calibration of the laser.

The 12 inch Bosch is a beast you`ll keep forever. They have a special cantilever system that minimizes the room needed at the back of the saw so it doesn`t need as much back space as conventional miter saws. A moulding fence is around 20 bucks. They come up second hand now and then - that`s how I got mine. Glad I waited for the Bosch.

I swear by Bosch and Festool, but hitachi is great as well. Probably the only Japese company I have faith in lately.
