Need 7" polisher suggestion

I need an ok quality dual action DA 7" polisher. It`ll get just DIY type use so it doesn`t need to be as high in quality as say a professional would need. Been spending a lot of $$ lately on tools/equipment so I`m trying to save some here.

Hopefully there`s something out there around the $100 range. Any suggestions?

It may exist but I`ve never seen a 7" DA buffer/polisher. 7"-9" are generally rotary machines. The majority of DA styles are 6" but 5" backing plates are the common recommendations to accept 5 1/4 to 5.5" foam pads. Unless it`s a forced rotation DA smaller backing plates and pads are generally used to assist the machine in turning them.

I have read that the Harbor Freight DA is decent with a few modifications but I`ve never used one.

Thanks for the info. guys. Yes I was wrong about the 7" requirement. Seems like I was thinking more rotary polishers instead of 6" polishers.

Couple follow up questions.

What modifications are needed to the HF polisher to get it up to speed? I`m referring to the Bauer 8mm throw polisher.

8mm Random Orbit 6 in. DA Polisher/Sander

And what makes the Porter Cable 7424 XP or Griot`s polisher (suggested elsewhere) better than the HF Bauer? If it`s just better build quality (longer lasting) then I`ll probably just end going with the HF to save $, then upgrade later. But if there`s an actual performance upgrade I might consider the Porter Cable or Griot`s.

Thanks

I remember something about changing the poor-quality grease that the Bauer unit uses. The articles I googled were 6-7 years old so perhaps that has been corrected by the manufacturer.

After some more research it looks like I`m going to get a used Griot`s G9. If I wear it out then I`ll be in a position to get a new one and if I don`t I can resell it for about as much as I put into it.

Only thing is the used ones offered on ebay don`t come with the wrench. Anyone know how to get one of those thin wrenches? I guess it`s used for changing out the pad.

The thin, flat, wrench is used for changing out the backing plate which is screwed into the machine.. The pads are using velcro to attach to the backing plate.
Here is a wrench that should work with the machine.. They pretty much all use the same, standard, mounting..
