Just thought I would say hi. Currently I own five vehicles, and I feel like it is time to start treating them the way they deserve to be treated. I guess you could say I have neglected the finish on these cars for a while.
I am a graduate of WyoTech in Blairsville Pennsylvania. Growing up I have always been around cars at car shows and drag races with my father. I never really had a vehicle to be proud of until this past couple of years. Going to school I drove a sonoma that was nothing more than a beater that constantly had run ins with trees on the trails. Right as I got home from school after graduation, I realized that the frame was bent on my truck. About the same time, my father became very ill with cancer. During an emergency surgery procedure, he had a massive stroke. What upset him the most was the loss of ability to be able to drive his pride and joy, his 1998 Sport Gold Metallic Camaro SS. He bought this car new and drove daily. Later we found out that there were only seven of these cars produced in this color (SS hardtop). I started to drive his camaro as my truck was no longer able. As time went on, the cancer only got worst. He was ripped away from me by the hands of a careless doctor.
I kept driving his camaro daily and fell in love with it. I needed more though. His car was just that, his car. He had passed away but i felt, and still feel, that it is his car and always will be. I needed my own so i bought a 2001 camaro Z28 to drive and play with. Long story short, I drove this car and drove it hard, needed more power, put a massive cam in it and spun a rod bearing. That car sits in a barn for now.
My father's other car was also a prized possession of his, a 1970 Monte Carlo with 35,000 original miles. This car too now belongs to me. It has sat for a long time but as far as the body goes, it is in near perfect condition. However, the paint itself is not all that great. It is original paint and is covered in over-spray. I have slowly started the process of claying the whole car, but any more information and tips would be appreciated on this 1970 paint.
I also recently purchased a 2013 Scion FR-S in black raven.... so thats a total bear to keep looking good.
I am here to learn as much as possible. I feel as if my fathers cars deserve to be made to and kept as pristine as possible in his memory. I also want to eventually make some extra cash doing detail work on the side as I have plenty of free time off of work. I feel that this is definitely something that will keep my interest and will keep me looking for ways to make cars look better. I also feel like this would be a good way to rebuild that blown engine in the Z28.
Ive already seen an insane amount of knowledgeable information on this forum and look forward to learning as much as there is to learn. I dont expect to be anywhere near perfect for quite some time, but i know ill try. Once my mild case of OCD kicks in, black isnt black until its a mirror.
