I'll figure it out....

Hey guys,

Just wondering if any have an idea how to deal with this sort of thing. I think the car spent part of it's life near the ocean, not sure though. I tend to run into this alot, but i have never been able to get a grasp on how to tackle something like this. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm really not sure as Ive never incountered something like that yet (knock on wood!). But, from the looks of it, I'd say its just made of metal and the metal is oxidized and rusted. Perhaps just some metal polish and lots of elbow grease would help to revive it? It would probably be difficult to scrub it as hard as you are going to have to to get it to look new again and not scratch the paint.

Yeah, that's what concerns me. I have been going through my head trying to figure out what I can do without seriously messing up the paint- brasso, tarnx, apc(?), steel wool, dremel........

Just trying to figure out what I can do to at least make it look more presentable. Otherwise, I may just dip the thing in paint remover, give it an acid bath, and then polish it up.

I would try the dremel tool, with a polishing attachment on a low speed.
Shame ththe badge can't come off.

Also what I would do is put some blue masking tape around the emblem. This way if you slip with the dremel you won't cause much damage. The 2 minutes it would take to mask up that area will be well worth it!

Just a bit of a suggestion!

Use masking tape to tape off the area! after you use the masking tape you can go over the masking tape with a heavier tape like duckt tape! then you don't need to worry about the paint!

As for polishing up that emblem ...I would probably say to take a light compound and a tooth brush! (I have even heard of people actually using tooth paste on that kind of thing for the minty fresh feeling... lol j/k)

Remove and replace it...the time involved to repair it would never pay and it would never look great again...be honest with the customer and he'll appreciate it:bigups
