Honestly, I'm not trying to pick on you, but I disagree again. :)

You're right in that there is probably an optimum polish for every situation. Though from my first reading of the OP's situation I'm going to recomend something with the widest applicability, and lowest probabilty of cocking up, easiest to use, and cheapest etc.

Now that he's mentioning a wider range cars (including non-garage queens) then you may very well want to think about wider range of polishes. Either way, I'd start with the SwirlX, and then go from there to see if I needed any additional products.

Or perhaps not, since if SwirlX/Pre-wax cleaner/Cleaner Wax won't remove it, is it really worth removing?

SwirlX is good, but I'd challenge your SwirlX finish with my 85RD or FPII or UF finish anytime.

Well I'd decline the challenge since we are talking a completely different level of product cost, quality, composition and application method.

Especially the 3M ultrafina.
